Been working on tower models for XR, and since it's you guys that are going to be seeing them, you get to tell me what you think. However, NO useless spam like 'OMFG WTF?' or "OMFG THAT'S ****" . If you think it is, then say WHY! These are still concepts, so may still change. Of course, let me know which you like and WHY.

Concept shield skinned


Concept shield with different top unskinned


Concept shock semi-skinned (the grey planes are the sparks, just to stop people asking)


Concept arrow tower unskinned, original style



Concept arrow tower unskinned, 4 windows.


Concept arrow tower unskinned, 8 windows.


The towers are up for a vote on which you prefer, just don't forget WHY. Also any ideas for death animations could be useful.

Highest is 2.8k tris. 1k below the original. All models are lower poly than originals, except maybe the shock.

I like the shock semi-skinned. It just looks nice.
The shield one is hard to hit with summ? Harder than the original for sure.

Lol. Ummm. Kinda. But as I said, I need to do animations for them, and I just got my project for the computing unit at uni. But when that's done I'll send them to you for proper skinning :p

- base is much lower than current. For easier sac?
- make a door or a ladder  Cool
- how about a low height wall? That would change some tactics... easy to destroy or not affected by shield, to prevent unsaccable shields...
- flag on top? like beast sub...
- some distinct feature to make then different from different angles. A door on only one side, one difference in the structure in one of the sides, etc... for example some pipes on one side of the chem tower and some capacitors/coils on the shock tower...

Sheepish: Not tried much organic modelling yet. And with everything else I just got given today I don't have much time to learn it AND do everything else.

Satan: The base here is only what you'll usually see. The real model will have the deeper base. Flags... well could only put them on top of normal and mortar. Wall round them... well... kinda defeats the purpose of a lot of towers and would REALLY change gameplay. So I think that one will be a no. No door/ladder as it would involve so much extra work. Would add 1k + tris in each model AND would screw over the hitbox. So that's a definite no there. Distinct features... well mortar tower will have the barrel and pipe. Shock tower you can't really put a coil on it without adding lots of polys, which you don't want for a purely decorative thing. I'm thinking of adding some ivy to them, UV only. That would make them less generic. Remember these textures are the old ones.

The shield tower might look interesting to see in action. I'm not too sure about the shock tower though but that could change with the rest of the textures being added. I do like the 4 windowed guard tower over the original and 8 window tower though.

now getting my hands on 3D Studio Max ... will have a crack at modelling ( i modelled the uss starship enterprise with blender so i might be able to do it )
