Last two posts make very interesting points. However Shagroth I invite you to play a 5v5 sometime. In this situation there are more than enough buffs for all.
There are so many buffs per player that most of my time is spent fighting against someone using buffs (lame or not lame). Gameplay degenerates.
Many selfbuffs are optimal, or have some reason, but are still not FUN.

Yeah, Sorry I was in a cocky mood and stuff. Your last quote actually brought some value into this conversation. I recall multiple occasions being called a "lame buffer" when I was actually defending the Garr going up behind me or the Summ around the corner. As I was in the middle of a delicate situation I didn't bother explaining myself. Some of the people complaining there actually posted here.

I have played a few hundred clanwars jazzking so I like to believe I know how it works.

buffs are neeeded for progressing games toward a finish, it is usually 45 mins per game so there are only that much buffs available before game ends.
1. If you ever experience 1v1 buffs in a clanwar you are stupid because you are walking alone.
2. in 5v5 1 great player can make so much difference in the game he might need to be shut down, making him a better target for buffs than their buildings.
3. A great player can wipe the entire enemy team with ease if he does things correct and enemies does not in a 5v5 opening up for siege to kill any shield.

probably loads more points on why buffs are good as is, but its always situational

I get what you mean Shagroth. Man, the amount of times Legacy was 1v1 eleced, simply because he could kill the entire team making way for sums, subs, etc. It was a logical choice given the circumstances.

Imo clanwars are not comparable because selfbuffs are disabled. They also rarely progress into late game so there are not that many buffs available.
In pubs playing 5v5 or 4v4 you are frequently walking alone, you have no choice.
We all agree that some 1v1 buffs are appropriate. Many are not reduce the fun for all. This problem is more acute in small games.
