I don't know if you have heard but they are actually "probably" making savage 3. From an official reddit post in the strife subreddit, they state that they are making a game that "will excite long time S2 fans".
Considering that nobody is working on the sources of savage rebirth, and both savage live and jeklynn heights going at snail pace I consider it a really good news.
It might end up as a failure, because if it tries to appeal to old fans it will not have very much success among the masses, whereas if it tries to innovate too much it will not please any savage follower as it happened with savage 2.
Natural selection 2 has demonstrated that RTS hybrids do not appeal, even tough savage having a fantasy setting will definitely have more chances compared to sci-fi.
I wish s2 would gather savage and savage2 fans and open up a feedback forum to pour into savage 3 and make it a nice game for a reunion...I just want savage 3 to succeed, but sadly I am very skeptical about it.

Tbh I don't think a lot of us here are fans of S2 Games, so doubt this applies to us. I'm not sure if I would want them to make a Savage 3 because I just know they'll fuck it up.

I'm also skeptical, but also hopeful. I think they are probably moving back in the direction of savage while staying attached to the moba genre. Maybe 3rd person action like Smite with an RTS element set in the newerth universe. Personally there is a lot of room for growth in esports combining rts/moba strategy with real-time, precise combat.

It could be something where pro teams recruit specialist commanders/captains and field players seperately. This specialization is already present in some esports. For example in dota you get mid carries who can be young and inexperienced but they're beastly in laning, whereas the captain is more focused on telling others what to do and executing a coherent plan. Afaik Counter-strike has some players more focused on strategy and commanding, and others on aim, and the weapons they use also vary accordingly.

Anyway, there's no way this can hurt Savager XR, it's always nice to see new products even if they disappoint. Thanks for the notification natostanco! I will say that if S2 basically remade Savage 1 with polish, match-making, and nice graphics, and good marketing, it could prove itself to be a popular premiere esports title. Sick plays, deep strategy, etc. Unfortunately I suspect that combat will emerge from hard-coded abilities like Smite rather than organically from the engine and hitboxes like Savage 1. This will be to keep it in the moba space and so that it can benefit from the associated marketing.

PS: Oh and using abilities increases the diversity of units, which means you can release and sell new ones using the f2p mdoel.
