Hi all, made a slightly longer video to show off the types of leaps I described in the last video in pub play.  Mixing up where you look vs where you hit basically becomes your bread and butter as a predator using melee.

Past that you need to acquire a feel for timings, particularly to avoid and punish freeswings, but also to abuse your opponent's tendancy to second guess during pauses and block somewhere new. You can only learn that with experience so go have some fun playing.

I used demos belonging to Legacy, so many thanks to him.

Sadly, there's never going to be another game quite like this.

Something came to my mind thinking about what seperates Savage from other games. In its own, competitive multiplayer kind of way, Savage is a little like a sandbox. From the commander's perspective, of course, a lot of creative decisions are used in interaction with the map to lead your team to victory.

As a field player, there a many vastly different ways to make your contribution, even if you just want to run around and place sensors. The engine is relatively open to allow many playstyles and strategies to emerge naturally.

I'm certain , for example, that the developers never imagined beast gameplay like that we see today. Modern FPS's seem tremendously derivative by comparison. Savage was, I think, extremely ambitious. Yet it somehow worked. Everything, from the commander voting system, technology, maps, melee, and weapons, worked.

Somehow, an incredibly high skill cap still emerged. A happy accident, I suppose.  I suspect that modern publishers would never back a project combinining RTS, FPS, and third person action. We owe our thanks to a pretty uninformed porn magnate actually (S2 Maliken, the initial investor).

I'm in the midst of exploring a similarly fortunate accident called Super Smash Bros Melee. The biggest SSBM tournament of all time is this weekend, starting Friday, and I'm really excited.

Completely agree. Legacy doesn't use lerp iirc, I just turn it on for recordings. When the camera moves too fast youtube gets a lot more artifacts.

What I always say about lerp is that turning it off (cl_cameraAngleLerp 9999) is better because your brain can process where you are facing much faster. You can easily map where you see your opponent on the screen to what keyboard buttons to press to get to him.

Someone finally found a use for those farming scenes that didn't make it into the "Legacy" movie.  Afro
