Should SavageLive become opensource?

It would reduce the barrier for community incentives and hopefully reduce all the separate versions we have seen pass by on savage. A big con would be the security issues, but hey, many successful open source projects are doing just fine. Over time the security flaws will diminish as this community has a lot of talented people in different fields. The problem is keeping the projects they create alive, handling constructive and non-constructive criticism and working together.

What are your opinions?

Well, in the past, most if not all of the hacks we've seen in XR happened because the source code was public. From downright hax re-compiled games to just analyzing the code and looking for vulnerabilities that could be exploited. Only now we've managed to change XR so much that vanilla silverback hax became incompatible. Probably not even all of them :/. But we won't have the manpower to fight resourceful coders which would just go ahead and hack the game just for fun, at the expense of the innocent players which would not get fixes, improvements, new content, because we're too busy plugging holes we had no reasons opening, to begin with. That said, we will support serious modders and create the game with modding in mind. Our own game will most likely be just a mod of the main architecture.
