1  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: XR map upload problem... any fix soon? on: August 03, 2009, 10:55:45 am
Fixed the current problem; hope it's the last one Wink
2  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: XR map upload problem... any fix soon? on: July 25, 2009, 09:17:52 pm
It should have been working weeks ago. I excluded the folders "world/mapname/triggers", "world/mapname/scripts" and "world/mapname/effects" from the check; first of which I just found out to actually be "world/mapname/trigger", which I fixed right now (which shouldn't interfere with maps with effects only though, judging by the name).

If it's still not working upload me the file in question somewhere and I'll debug it.
3  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: The Map Approval Process: Thoughts on: May 26, 2009, 12:41:29 am
Allowing maps to get on the server unchecked by responsible people first is not going to happen with the current immensely insecure map format.

I'm planning on fixing that as well as overhauling the maps section this summer (cleaning up code, allowing more game and editor integration, adding an server admin interface for Groentjuh and possibly more server admins, and so on).
4  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: Savage XR S2G Converter on: April 11, 2009, 10:20:32 pm
Well, it "knows" the S2G file format and uses the "squish" library, which somehow lost its neat web page and got ripped into pieces of web 2.0 (google code presence, some blog entry), for de- and compressing pretty efficiently and with high quality.

Note that S2G is a lossy format (like JPEG) and converting back and forth is NOT a good idea (in fact, never ever convert a S2G back unless you've actually lost the original files).

I fail in finding the connection between Tirza's post and the topic Sad

if we get more map admins we can split the work..
yeh, that's the theory, it just doesn't seem to work as great as it sounds Tongue

You are welcome to help checking maps; for now simply post your test results as comments to the respective maps. If you don't do it too sloppily I'll sort you out as map admin so you can put approved maps online and remove ones with serious bugs.
A list of maps waiting for checking can be retrieved by clicking the link bottom left on the maps section's main page. Things to especially look out for include fog & farclip settings, occluders, tod (time of day) settings, that all areas which are meant to be reachable are actually reachable and that all areas which are not meant to be reachable are not reachable (aka exploits Tongue), grimms wall exploits, "buildability" (whether placing buildings at crucial and interesting points is possible), worker pathing along important paths, whether ladders are properly climbable, whether one can spawn from every spawnflag, and probably some more.

[I really should put that list on the map upload page; the one there is not as extensive :-/]

and makes sav looking crappier than it already is Sad

Wrong, it does not change graphics, except Summ/Pulse shots which you barely see if low.cfg enabled at low.
En's GUI change other things of which I have no clue of course, but it does not change graphic look crappy at all.
he was obviously talking about when "low.cfg" is used.

Yes, that article is an interesting read, and I mostly agree with what it says.

However, it is talking about competitively played games. Pub games in Savage aren't exactly competitive and the main goal is as much entertainment for everyone as possible (that'd be my definition); here you may indeed get moaned at for doing boring, "skillless" moves.
Clan wars get pretty close though to what is described in the article; you won't find many mourning about a sac rush win there. Sadly the meta-game of Savage is not all that well developed as way too few competitive matches are played and there are relatively few players.
9  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: Adding new maps? on: February 11, 2009, 04:01:53 pm
up to now every new map admin lost his enthusiasm in a matter of days/weeks/sometimes months; that's kind of the cause i stopped seeking out even more map admins.

i'll do a map check one of the next days.
10  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: How can I change maps to a bigger/smaller size on: February 03, 2009, 05:21:34 pm
i remember making sun light (which is only visible during daytime) have an equivalent moon light the time the sun light wouldn't be visible to make the shaders not look weird/work at night too; i think it only applied to objects though.

Cheesy

Well, yes, I should probably add a feature to allow adding space to the sides without having to scale the actual map at all.
12  Savage XR / Mapping & Modding Forum / Re: How can I change maps to a bigger/smaller size on: February 01, 2009, 10:33:10 pm
But it does not seem to be compatible with XR
Nope, can't think of any reason; I guess you must be doing something wrong Tongue

No, Trigardon, I liked the old denser (and "cosier") grass better too; the new system overall (flowers etc.) is not all bad though Smiley
14  Savage XR / General Savage XR Discussion / Re: TUTORIAL: Savage Chat Binds. on: January 30, 2009, 05:11:34 pm
Hello, have a question.
How сan I bind buttons like "%", "?", " _" etc
Sorry, if there was such an issue
open console and type "listkeys" to get a list of the key names savage accepts. for some of the special char keys the names might be quite different or not even seem related at all (esp. if you are not using an us keyboard); you might have to player around a little Undecided
15  Savage XR / Support Forum / Re: Savage freeze and chuck out to windows (error) on: January 24, 2009, 01:30:30 pm
Have you considered trying the standalone version? (without any patches (except for SFE* / RMod))
