1  Savage XR / Support Forum / Re: Server Connection Not possible sometimes on: January 23, 2015, 10:55:07 pm
Thanks a lot for your answers, Haku!

Okay, good to know that it's not about bans =) I was kind of worried that I got into some "bad range".

Pinging newerth.com works fine. Teamspeak 3 on newerth works fine. Kgs Go-Server/Cgoban works fine, so does Skype and Chrome. That's all I use.

I don't know the IP of the master server (how can I find it?). As for other gameservers, I tried pinging Groent's Kingdom, which I currently can connect to.  Pinging the IP works, if I omit the port. If I add the port, the result is "unknown host". I cannot find the IP's of the not-working servers, because the game does not display them to me. Will ask a friend tomorrow to write them to me.

I have no file named console.log anywhere in my savage-file (Linux-Version). Only an empty scripts.log . Ah! I found a debug.log, but it only tells me about sound drivers and graphics, which all seem to work okay. If you meant the console-text I get when starting Savage via console, it's a massive amount of lines about sound architecture (codecs, samples, frequencies).... pretty strange.

Currently I can use for example Groent's Kingdom, Matches 5,4 and the two Martial Arenas -- 13 available servers. I cannot use for exmple Groent's Matches 3, Leet Us Public, or Groent's and Girls -- 9 unavailable, 2 of which say LAN, and the others 9999 Ping. Usually, the list is much longer than 22, or?

Let's see what will happen tomorrow. Maybe it really will resolve itself after a few days  Beast Mist . Thanks once more for your time!

Edit: While I wrote this, I refreshed the Server List once more. Now I can connect to Groent's Matches 3, but not Kingdom.... this is really strange. Any Ideas?
2  Savage XR / Support Forum / Server Connection Not possible sometimes on: January 23, 2015, 12:50:09 pm
Hi everyone,

I recently changed my internet-connection and have a faster connection now. With this I already played Savage twice and it worked well.

But now I can't see some servers and not connect to those by ip either. Yesterday I only saw Newerth Evolution Mod Sad Most others showed Ping 9999 and ?/? Players

Today I see Groent Kingdom, but e.g. not Matches 1 or 2. The list is also much shorter than normally.

Maybe I'm in some ip-ban-range? My current ip is 217.88... , but yesterday I believe it was something 217.11?..... (can't remember). Can anyone tell me whether there are banned ip-ranges in that spectrum? If no, I'd assume that it was just a temporary strange mistake. Or are there any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

4  Newerth Hosted Competitions / NSL News / Re: Newerth Savage League - Season Five is Over! Winner: FOX on: May 15, 2013, 06:24:13 pm
Congratulations to FOX for winning this great tournament!

This has already be said, has it Cheesy You guys, as well as WW played awesomely! Actually, most matches were quite exiting and were also fought honorably most of the time.

What really needs to be said, however, is the following:

Thanks a lot to all the organizers, shoutcasters and admins of this league! Without you, this would not have been possible!

Thanks to Darkbread and Haku for enforcing the rules. Thanks to the QC for creating them. Thanks to Lucky, Tirza and all shoutcasters for providing of hours of premium entertainment. Thanks to TNaismith for coordinating all of this. Thanks to Daemon and the Developerss for keeping the game fresh and bug-free.

You and all others who contributed to this league, (whom I may have forgotten or missed, sorry for that  Undecided ) did awesome work!

Next NSL will come, and DA has learnt from our mistake, be sure of that  Cool

See you on the field!
5  Newerth Hosted Competitions / Newerth Savage League (NSL) / Re: Competitive Linux and Mac users in NSL5 on: January 14, 2013, 06:56:51 pm
Just as a quick feedback, the current Linux-version runs awesomely for me and I will play in the NSL5 with it. No crashes, no sound-problems, I'm very pleased.
Thanks a lot to all who worked on this!
6  Newerth Hosted Competitions / Rules and Regulations / Re: NSL5 Rules on: January 13, 2013, 02:23:03 pm
Just a question for clarification:

Does "No siegecamping rules" that Behespawning is allowed? As in, spawn behe, destroy demo and demoruner, get back in sub? Or will there be some serverside way of preventing this?

A simple idea I had in this direction is: Is it possible to deactivate all siege-unit's attacks near spawn-locations (sub/garr, lair/sh, flag)? So that they can spawn, move away and only attack/shoot when not too close to spawnpoints? Or would that be too much? I think it could be fair, since it hinders both teams equally, and especially prevents behespawning, which may help the, in pubs underpowered, humans. For a last line of defence, the server could turn this rule off when there is only one spawn-location left (that is, only sh or only lair) in that team. Maybe this is the wrong position for this. If so, please say it, and I'll remove this paragraph.

Good games for all!

Edit: I tried my hands at an ascii DA-Icon as well:

(jp2a and LibreOffice Writer, but mostly the former)
8  Newerth Hosted Competitions / General Discussions / Re: Newerth Competitions Hosting Guidelines on: May 16, 2012, 05:32:17 pm
That's actually a good point, I think. I have a lot of respect for the developers, constantly improving our game. Why should they also be burdened with administrative tasks? Maybe some of the godrefs on G&G would take this job, if the community asked for it. If there was a kind of election, there would also be less drama involved, as no one could cry "Dictatorship" at admins who do things with good intent, but in a way many people disagree.
9  Savage XR / General Savage XR Discussion / Re: How melee works. on: May 10, 2012, 09:42:26 pm
This is a very helpful explanation, thanks a lot, Daemon!
I always thought that we have a hitbox and swings are something like a line extending fom it, in the direction of he crosshair, independant of the animation. But boxes on both actually make more sense Smiley
I also agree on the position that this "simple" melee-system is the best choice for our game, the varriety of moves it offers in such a natural way is simply great.
10  Savage XR / Support Forum / Re: REPORT: Linux Savage XR Bugs on: May 07, 2012, 09:29:03 am
This is still happening for me. Just a note: On the Martial arena it doesn't happen - there the black screen goes away after a second and everything works fine. If other people affected by the bug confirm this, whoever works on this could check what's different in MA compared to Mper and Groent.
11  Savage XR / Support Forum / Re: INFO: Linux savage trouble with clicking two mouse buttons at once on: May 01, 2012, 06:35:09 pm
There's also a smaller, instant-workaround, which worked for me at Ubuntu and Debian 6.

Just press your mousewheel (not scroll but press) in the game once.

Then it works till you restart your pc, from my experience. Since the system views "clicking two mouse buttons at once" as clicking the mousewheel, "showing" it your real mousewheel seems to help.

I hope this can help someone Smiley
12  Savage XR / Support Forum / Re: REPORT: XR 1.0 Pre-Release - Bugs on: May 01, 2012, 06:29:23 pm
I confirm this - I think it started after the last update. It doesn't depend on Window-Mode or Fullscreen, happens in both modes. It happened to me on mpuk 1 and on G&G. Another thing is that the (TAB) score-board still works, when I press tab it appears over the black screen like over any normal part of the game.

I use Debian 6 and the nvidia proprietary driver version 195.36.31 on a 32-bit system.

When reconnecting doesn't help, I've found it helps to join another server, and then come back to the one you want to play at.

Overall the new client is working greatly, you've implemented some quite good improvements (Clan-screen, Custon items, better statistics-screen - nice work)!

13  Newerth Hosted Competitions / Rules and Regulations / Re: SWC 2012 Rules on: March 01, 2012, 03:45:26 pm
Okay, let's try to stay objective please and find some solution that get's the job of determining the better of two teams done. I can see the logic behind the smallest rooster-idea, and I wouldn't say that it's obviously stupid. I also see why deciding by kills, time, mined ressources and so on would fail, since people will adjust strategies according to it automatically. But what exactly is wrong with rematches?
I mean, Ale's saying, that a team of 10 Shags is not disadvantaged against a team of 20 much less experienced/skilled players, and that's not wrong, is it? Yes, player skill is not quantifyable, but it still is real, and determines the outcome of wars.
So why not just schedule a new match and play it out? Is that too hard? Yes, it will prolong the competition, but it will shorten the drama-span of it, at least in my opinion.

That is: Why are you, admin(s) and players of the SWC, against a rematch +as 3rd criterion ?
14  Newerth Hosted Competitions / Team Threads 2012 (Locked) / Re: German Team on: February 27, 2012, 12:42:33 pm
Everything is working well. It's only two or three people who can't play a match, and these people alternate, so maybe everyone of our team will have one game less in the end than a player of a smaller team. We can live with that, from what I saw.
15  Newerth Hosted Competitions / Matches 2012 (Locked) / Re: Ex. #1 USA -vs- Ger on: February 27, 2012, 12:31:02 pm
Good games! I think we all had a good first Exhibition round - fair and without bad feelings, but with a good proper war - at least that's my opinion. Scheduling and Server-Booking also went well - thanks a lot to the organizers and all players!
