In NSL 4 we had those nice replay-servers (with game demos). Nothing like that, this time?
6  Savage XR / General Savage XR Discussion / Re: IGNORE or UNIGNORE Phoe on: January 23, 2015, 12:18:59 pm
Many players do not have good English and many players could certainly improve their English, but they are all within acceptable levels. Even Phoe is within acceptable levels for normal situations.

However, Phoe actively desires to communicate in significant amounts and spams the chat with a lot of text (=not normal situations), and thus does have be adequate if he wishes not to annoy people. Nothing sad about it; just the truth.
The more you wish to talk, the better you should be at it.

we all try to speak to each other - and that is what counts. There are just worse things that happen in savage, then people who don't speak english in an absolute correct manner. Isn't it?
As I said, I like the fact that he's trying to work on teamplay and help, hence I gave him this critique that he may see to improving himself to increase his success rate. This shows that I care and am willing to help him. Alternatively, I could instead sugar-coat my way around him and add him to the ignore list, don't you think? A lot easier.

I believe he certainly knows that people do not like his spam, as indicated by this thread he started that revolves around himself, his motives, and the option to add him to the ignore list. I am not under the impression that he started this thread to complain about his haters, but rather to reach out to others. Hence, my extended hand reaching back towards him in return. Do you think differently?

The community of Savage is international. That is great. And there is no rule that players must speak perfect english. So we can't expect, that every1 is writing english with the correct vocabulary. Eg.: Myself. I've learned english in school. But that was long time ago and I didn't use to speak or write english.

It's just kinda sad to say things like

Your English is a real pain. Your grammar, sentence structure, and general use of certain vocabulary is horrible at times.

I know what you want to say Hakugei, but hey... we all try to speak to each other - and that is what counts. There are just worse things that happen in savage, then people who don't speak english in an absolute correct manner. Isn't it?

Just passing by to support shags opinion. For sure, it's kinda late - but he is just right. 24h rule?

It won't kill them but they won't kill demos either. See how that works.
That sounds good.

Now I go a bit offtopic - but anyhow it fits here.
The game dies because it's old and dusty.
Hmm... Don't agree 100% with that. We could do more to advertise it and gain NEW PLAYERS instead of keeping all the old whining-whores Evil And with "we" I want to say, that this is not a job for only one person. "We" should ask how can we improve? How can "we" catch some more attention? "We" are the community. Lots of the guys (and girls) who just pass by and take fun out of the game. All those could give something back. Do something, instead of only consuming. Don't get me wrong. There are already very good attempts on this and many topics to discuss these things. They just need to be integrated a bit more. It's just not only about the added features. It needs some advertisement, too.

How can we force the players to be more active (not only ingame - spread the word)? More creative (like all the dudes, who made those awesome youtube videos etc...)? Instead of being passive nerds, just sitting behind the screen and start flaming when the smallest change is made to the game, to the website, to the advertisement strategy, whatsoever...

I  would like to point out that there are loads of newer games out there who really suck compared to savage. Graphically and gameplay-wise. It is just stuck, somehow. And this wont be changed by killing behes with demos or not (Not offending - just pointing out my personal opinion).

As most of us are no doubt aware of the fact, that savage is somehow difficult to newbs. And that wont change by adding new content to the game itself. Maybe let's try to add some different ways how the game can be played. Different ways to win the game. And we should make them (the different ways to play the game) well known, too. Attract them (newbs). Give them the possibility to be a part of their team. To do something important in the game - for the team. Something that is needed to win. That will give them the feeling of: "They need me; I am important; wihtout me it won't work", something like this.

Just take xr_warmachine as an example. You can win by using different tactics - that is definitely a step in the right direction. That is something new. And as expected, there are lots of "old players", who just wont play that map. Maybe because they can't farm as they are accustomed to.

Lately, I almost only saw the same kind of games: firerush, ballirush, "farm-orgy" until the enemy gets gold-starved (mostly humans) and therefor looses the ability to do anything against the attacking team, and so on.

That could be changed. The same always and ever repeating strategies could be forced to rethink and make the players use their dusty braincells again. Wink

There will always be haters and non-flexible thinking minds out there. As Daemon wrote: Just go on and /ignore them. Think of the newbs instead of just holding to the vets who just are the vets because they did the same moves 100 billion times, again and again. And those who deserve the "veteran", they will be fine with the changes. At least with those who really improve the experience ingame.

Let some fresh air in, take a deep breath and look how cool savage still is. IT'S ALREADY SAVAGE XR, man! Grin

Chaplain in-combat abilities are only good for siege healing.
V 7 3 -> They are also good for a whole team moving on the field; when they stand close together (they often do, because getting down the hard preds is easier with TEAMWORK...)

Disagreed. I think I even managed to take out Shags pred one or two times with that unit.

But I still like the suggestion of getting a wider range for the chaps potion and the "beam" or what you call it. Like Stringer wrote, that way, chaps can act more from behind the frontier and don't have to be in the middle or the battle.

First impression: point B. of the first post sounds cool: Behesprint...

But when I read through the rest of that topic I start feeling like: On one side the power of a Behemoth is getting nerved. Damage is decreased and no real chance to defend against a straight forward demorun anymore. On the other side we are talking about "Behesprints"? Hmm...

To me, the "behefly-thing" and the "demo-kill-thing" are just too much. Beasts should also get some "extras", too. E.g.: Summoners could shoot the catapult boulders - as a strike back.

Behemoths are really slow units and it mostly takes a huge amount of time to get to the right spot and do some damage. They often get fluxed or ballied on their way to the human base or to the garr when attacking. But now, legos are just dropping a demo in the last second before the hit of my behe arrives at their head - and boom, i'm kinda fucked. We should give a similar ability to beasts, if we wanna keep that change, imho. Like I said: just let the summs fuck the cata-boulders up, while they fly through the sky...

And human sieges are absolutely strong enough - why do you want them to get even stronger? As an example: a tough nomad can easily eject his balli and fight against some enemies or just go back to the next garr and respawn. Beast don't have any chance to get out of them sieges. Poor beasts. Yeah, I would say we go for the pokemoth: scavs can turn into behemoths Tongue

Well, what about just leaving it as it is and play for a while? Time will tell, what kind of further changes are important and they can be done laters. I'm just a bit afraid that when sieges are nerved too much, then it becomes like: "waiting for a game... 100 votes for nextmaps... play 5min... trolling begins... 100 votes for a draw... waiting for a game..." because teams start to camp when they can't rush effectively.

That "waiting, voting, draw - thing" sucks moar than any behe that captured my flag, or survived the demokill. Just no point in nerving the power of units that are meant to be powerful.

Long story short: Don't cut the balls of the behemoth and give them human sieges even more advantage - they are already op.

As an alternative, I could recommend Cube2: Sauerbraten. Also multiplayer and It's open source. Imho very funny and not to difficult (to me at least).
