It won't kill them but they won't kill demos either. See how that works.
That sounds good.
Now I go a bit offtopic - but anyhow it fits here.
The game dies because it's old and dusty.
Hmm... Don't agree 100% with that. We could do more to advertise it and gain NEW PLAYERS instead of keeping all the old whining-whores

And with "we" I want to say, that this is not a job for only one person. "We" should ask how can we improve? How can "we" catch some more attention? "We" are the community. Lots of the guys (and girls) who just pass by and take fun out of the game. All those could give something back. Do something, instead of only consuming. Don't get me wrong. There are already very good attempts on this and many topics to discuss these things. They just need to be integrated a bit more. It's just not only about the added features. It needs some advertisement, too.
How can we force the players to be more active (not only ingame - spread the word)? More creative (like all the dudes, who made those awesome youtube videos etc...)? Instead of being passive nerds, just sitting behind the screen and start flaming when the smallest change is made to the game, to the website, to the advertisement strategy, whatsoever...
I would like to point out that there are loads of newer games out there who really suck compared to savage. Graphically and gameplay-wise. It is just stuck, somehow. And this wont be changed by killing behes with demos or not (Not offending - just pointing out my personal opinion).
As most of us are no doubt aware of the fact, that savage is somehow difficult to newbs. And that wont change by adding new content to the game itself. Maybe let's try to add some different ways how the game can be played. Different ways to win the game. And we should make them (the different ways to play the game) well known, too. Attract them (newbs). Give them the possibility to be a part of their team. To do something important in the game - for the team. Something that is needed to win. That will give them the feeling of: "They need me; I am important; wihtout me it won't work", something like this.
Just take xr_warmachine as an example. You can win by using different tactics - that is definitely a step in the right direction. That is something new. And as expected, there are lots of "old players", who just wont play that map. Maybe because they can't farm as they are accustomed to.
Lately, I almost only saw the same kind of games: firerush, ballirush, "farm-orgy" until the enemy gets gold-starved (mostly humans) and therefor looses the ability to do anything against the attacking team, and so on.
That could be changed. The same always and ever repeating strategies could be forced to rethink and make the players use their dusty braincells again.

There will always be haters and non-flexible thinking minds out there. As Daemon wrote: Just go on and /ignore them. Think of the newbs instead of just holding to the vets who just are the vets because they did the same moves 100 billion times, again and again. And those who deserve the "veteran", they will be fine with the changes. At least with those who really improve the experience ingame.
Let some fresh air in, take a deep breath and look how cool savage still is. IT'S ALREADY SAVAGE XR, man!
