I'm still here. that Savage on Unreal totally flopped on so many levels. I still have everything where it was when we first found out about this. We'll probably use what they did wrong as an example. Though I feel bad for the bad direction s2games took that project.

Hey ho!

What a coincidence.
I just had the idea for a remake of Savage in UE4 or Unity and came by to check the resonance.
And voilá someone already started! Cheesy I'm thrilled!
Now I hadn't time to read the entire thred here, since I'm at work. I'll check later.

So lets make a new Savage. Not just a port, but a worthable and better successor. (not like Savage 2)
And by all means I'd like to see it really well done and possibly financed through Kickstarter.

The direction has been under debate for some time. We started porting the old savage to start with. I think its a simpler starting point. I'd like to preserve a good portion of the feel and speed of Savage 1 combat/gameplay.

As far as a worthy successor that would have a long lasting community and large player base that would take some work. I think it would need a lot of new elements to attract a larger player base. I don't have the funding to building the required team to make that. Also I think s2games would shut it down if we are using their universe. I've got some alternative lore that is similar so you can relate but can't get sued.

Simple project update.



The UV Mapping is terrible and the textures need to be completely redone. But basic models and animations are in process to being imported into UE4!

If anyone is interested in creating high-res retexture or remodeling let me know!

He is one of the most destructive, volatile, self-delusional, assuming, trolling, hateful and hated person you'll ever see. He's one of only several people that were ever banned from Newerth and have a kick-on-sight Groentjuh's servers. Hacked various things like the password of Groen's server through the use of dissimulated illegal commands inside map files. Oh and he likes pretending he's a she.

Even if I agree with most of it, especially now since I'm reffing on Groentjuhs I gotta say that he has the motivation for it. He's really into it which surely is a good thing in a that big project.

Right now we are hashing out the scope for the start and then creating a project timeline. The project has nearly complete transparency if you follow us on Trello. (https://trello.com/b/yCp5s9Uw/savage-arena-content)

Later on WHEN we get to the alpha phase we'll probably ask some of the Newerth community to help out with refining the combat system so that it has an epic feel to it.

Let me know if you want my help, i am an aspiring developer too :3 in my free time apart from uni i've been working on a game engine in lwjgl for a while to learn, i have a grasp of some basics of an engine so learning to use one can't be too hard for me

I believe this thread has hit several solid points and if properly gleaned by S2Games would make savage 3 quite amazing.

I'll continue to hold my breath and wait until they actually say they are making a Savage 3 and actually open up the development for discussion.

Until then...I'll keep reading and be inspired by all of your posts!

I can help you for creating building and other non animated things on unreal, but I just started coding 2 weeks ago in my Uni and we're coding in java so I don't think that I may be able to help you with the blueprint system.

Lol...my fail

I meant to rewrite it that Heroes of Newerth....partially failed. As every time I missed a creep kill or didn't deny I had people yelling at me to uninstall the game.

I've tried to get into the game during beta, first years, and finally recently but couldn't completely enjoy the game with such a troll community supporting it. It was basically a black hole for trolls. Probably why Savage 2 doesn't have any players and Savage 1 only has a few dedicated fans left which are fun to play with.

@Godforsaken I 100% agree with your comment. Definite Nobel Winner! Like music, everyone enjoys the simple repetitive tunes and the complex genres have faded into the background. I can duel someone for several hours without becoming bored. I could lose every time or win and it is still fun to duel. I believe this is the real magic of Savage 1...all the other features are just gimmicks with imbalance, glitches, etc.

If S2Games is really working on Savage3 they should involve this community in the development process. Keeping everything secret and deciding important things like gameplay behind closed doors might just end up in another Savage2-like pile of crap.

If you look at Savage Timeline:

Savage 1....Success
Savage 2 *Secret*....Fail
Heroes of Newerth *Secret*....Partial Fail
Strife *Secret*....Fail
"Savage 3" *Secret*....Fail

So if they continue to try to make their own engines, close it off from community content/suggestion, and try to control everything they won't stabilize. I really don't think they will succeed as they lost majority of their passionate staff. I've donated money too each game just hoping they get it right but hasn't happened.

Is it possible for it to succeed? maybe
Will they succeed? most likely not

If they really want to make a Savage 3 then they should respect the community and Newerth as it is probably one of the best loyal group. For a developer to turn their backs and the community to continue is worth something. Personally. I think if they ignore Newerth's success and do their own thing they WILL FAIL!

Savage Live is in a pretty advanced state. Duel Mode is practically working (melee, leap, block, movement, hitboxes, you name it), just as with spawning, network stuff (client+server+stats+chat+reconnects+etc), inventory, many items and plenty other things. What we basically lack is artists to take care of everything from 3D (rigging, animations etc) to 2D (GUI, icons etc). It just was not able to compete with my kid, in terms of my time availability.

Savage Live may have some improvements from the original Savage but there are a lot of disadvantages in Unity over UE4. Plus, I don't agree with the direction of Medieval feel that Savage 2 and Savage Live is taking. Also, the beasts are more like mutant humans than beasts.

From the video you posted it looks fun and would I like to get my hands on it when it reaches an early beta level of completion. Have fun with your kid, I've got one of my own 5 months now.

What you posted is basically the stage I have seen Savage live in a pretty long while ago. I would love to see Savage on a modern engine, but I have to sav... Savage live attempted the same thing on Unity. Didn't work out!

As said: if you can get it of the ground, no doubt people will start helping!

This is what I figured after evaluating the situation.

So basically what I need to create is the following content before maybe more join the band wagon:

Phase I

    Game Mode: Arena Combat
    Maps: Small Melee Arena Map
    Units: Human Nomad, Beast Scavenger
    Weapons: Axe, Claw
    Actions/Movement: Walk, Run, Sprint, Crouch, Jump, Leap, Roll, Strafe, Idle, Attack, Block.
    Attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma (Standard RPG stats but would be hidden to start with)...Hit Points and Stamina
    Objects: Spawn Point


I can do environmental mapping/modeling, Unreal 4 Blueprints, but I can't do character models very well so personally I could get it as far as just using the default unreal character model running around in an arena with the abilities of the beast and human and then hope for some increased interest for someone to come along and add the character models, visuals, sounds, etc. That is out of my expertise.
