Title: Dirty Bomb
Post by: Nanaa on August 20, 2015, 10:28:42 am
-Team-based, objective oriented free to play FPS on Steam
-Currently in open beta
-From the makers of the legendary Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (=Splash Damage! Yeaaahh, it was about time!)

-Accurate hip fire, fast movement speeds, headshots deal 2x damage on most guns
-Parkourish movement (long jumps and wall jumps)
-With melee weapon out you run faster

-Choose between medics, ammo guys, engineers, recons and just pure killers
-Each mercenary comes with its unique ability
-Low HP mercs are faster than high HP mercs
-Paying aspect comes in if you want to unlock new mercs and best loadout cards immediately
-However mercs and cards can be unlocked just by playing. (I never spend real money but got most things I wanted in ~100 hours)
-There are always 2 default mercs accessible and 3 buyable mercs in free rotation to try them out

And to showcase, here's a frag movie by one of the best players in Dirty Bomb (who also happens to be an Enemy Territory veteran):

this doesnt look great

What do you mean? The gameplay, the graphics or what?

For me personally, this is one of the most promising multiplayer fps titles currently. It's not quite ready for a larger scale competitive scene yet since there are quite a lot of class balancing and fine tuning needed to be done. However pub games have been great fun.

I really dig how it reminds Enemy Territory so much. The maps are big and have multiple objectives that the attacking teams tries to complete within a time limit. For example, attackers try to repair and escort a vehicle carrying drug samples from point A to point B. Then they got to deliver the samples to a drop point. Defenders try to disable the vehicle with airstrikes and other explosives and guard the drop point. In Stopwatch mode (the competitive mode) teams play 2 matches switching sides and try to beat the other team's time.

Combat wise, I like that Dirty Bomb mostly favors good tracking aim and side to side strafing skills. There are however twitch aim guns such as shotguns, sniper rifles and a quake styled "coil rifle" that one of the medics is using (Sparks' REVIVR -gun). The reason why I kind of dislike CS:GO is that it favors twitch aim and surprising so much (since many guns kill in 1 or 2 headshots). Also the unique recoil mechanics frustrates me. I like games where you can see the recoil from the crosshair's shaking. And games where you're not penalized with bad accuracy if you're moving while firing. Can't deny that CS:GO isn't any good and I'd probably get used to it and play it a lot if I just practised. Dirty Bomb just felt like familiar ground for me right off bat and I'm mostly likely going to keep playing it for a long time.

Here's TotalBiscuit's review if you wanna know more how the game plays out:
