Should Groentjuh & Girls upgrade to XR?

Django has asked me several times to upgrade to my servers to XR. Mainly to receive crash reports so the XR developers are able to find any bugs remaining in XR. According to him most major bugs are fixed, and the server shouldn't crash unless 90+ people are playing on them which also happens in SFE.

I want to ask YOU(the players on my server) what you think about upgrading the servers to XR, because you are mainly effected by such a change on the server. In the end I would like to have stable XR servers and XR clients, but this shouldn't harm the savage game experience to much.

There is a few things keep in mind:
Currently the XR developers don't get many crash reports of servers because most players are now playing on my server, which is running SFE*. This means that XR servers may remain bugged and many of the XRs new features remain unused.

I'm also wondering why are most players playing on my servers? I think it has todo with 1 of the following 2 things:

• Is XR just to unstable? Are Newerth server often crashing?
  In which case I might close my server during certain hours to 'force' ppl to play some games on Newerth. Like I did in the past.
   
• Players dislike certain features in XR.
  In XR most new features can be disabled. If that is the main problem I could upgrade my servers to XR trying to maintain a SFE* gameplay by disabling the features added in XR.
   

PS. Give feedback and don't just say that XR sucks. You wouldn't like that when you worked many MANY hours on XR!

Reasons I don't like playign XR on my main (and crappy) pc, wich are probably the reasons for most:

* Ugly textures on low quality, I like the way more colorfull feeling of SFE
* FPS decrease, sometimes a couple of hickups (as opposed to SFE)

I do use XR for mapmaking and playing on our household (and quicky) pc, altough a couple things wich I don't like:

* Giving/receiving officer is kind of a drag, becouse of the squad system
* I like the simple layout of SFE, mainly bothered with the squad system from XR
* People that keep telling me I should play on XR servers, and not listening to my counterarguments (hey moxy tirza how u doing? im great cool i gtg)

Personally i have no problems playing on SFE or XR servers, both I get 125fps with everything on high. 

People have told me XR does suck more on a slower PC but I have not tried it yet. I have used the SFE* client on the XR server and it seems the same as an SFE server.

Is there a way to have an XR server but have it listed as SFE*? It would reduce the placebo effect of people saying I'm having problems, it must be because the server is XR.

i belive they should, i have noticed a fps drop within some insances of XR (like on XR maps with heavey use of shaders n effects), however, itallways satys at a playable level, i think its about at 40 fps u stop seeing any diffence :S

However the more people using the servers the faster they will be able to fix/optmise/improve them, jus my 2 cents

well - to put it in a harsh way:

unless you don't change the G&G server to XR u will

a) continue having ppl boycott XR
b) don't get feed-back on XR performance and bugs

From my point of view, you should change them. Maybe it possible to add an option that allows to "switch off" the XR elements and have the look and feels of SFE and still paly on XR, as a lot of ppl seem concerned about fps issues - i myself encountered some as well.

Fixed about 5 days ago. The server now tells you why when you cant promote officers.

the Squad GUI can now be minimized in both FPS and Commander mode.

It's mainly the pmining-until-pred- and insta-respawn-bullshit that has got implemented as recommended server setting into XR. Can we please have a equally valued server setting that tells the server admins how Savage was supposed to be played before the EvO Community Servers went up some years ago?

I personally like the textures, even on low res but if u like the old textures so much u can waste a few mins with the s2z and switch to those.

Shaders have been implemented so fps is supposed to decrease a lil bit, as for the hickups ... go drink some water,doesnt amke too much diffrence imo.

Call your recommended XR server settings "The EvO Mod", since they change the gameplay deeper than Chocolate Savage actually does. And Chocolate Savage is considered as a mod. Moreover the EvO Mod mortar towers are completely useless in HvH and can get easily blocked. Make that "fix" optional please.

The thing I like about EvO settings: If you join a game later (means your not there from start) it's easy to catch up. On mpuk you can't join later cause you will get killed by high level guys.

Ugly is the wrong word I guess but they're different and most of all less colourfull. With this I mean both objects, terrain, units and buildings. The overal experience is somewhat bleaker, try running an XR and SFE client at the same time and you'll understand what I mean. I'm sorry I did not mean to say the textures are ugly (altough I did), it's a matter of taste really.

I'm no modder and not able to change all those textures, and if so XR should have original textures as an option as opposed to a mod, most people are not going all the way changing filenames to get different graphics or whatnot. It's great to see you have some nice counterarguments but it's not going to change the mindset of the players on Groentjuhs
