Aha, the torrent thingie that was shut down.

Opinion: (based on random shreds of information): Stupid of the police to try to shut something like that down (the torrent thingie).
And a ddos attack on the site of the police? mh. Childish. expectable. Well, life goes on, they are both back in action (the police site and the torrent thingie) so it was rather pointless.

LOL at your answer (: well this might not interest you if you are not into this download and copyright "thingie" , but if it is, study this case more, its the beginning of everything!!  cheesy

And yeah, "us pirates" clames the attack was not our intention, cuz we believe in a free internet (or whatever) [It was just some stupid nerds  cool who felt like revenging and being cool by shutting it down, prolly^^]

Nah it wasnt pointless at all! (:

BooM, could give me a quick intro in the story then?

As far as i saw here and there, they shut down something used to spread illegal software (movies, games, progams,...).
(It kinda feels like with kazaa.)
Some kiddies responded by flatting the police website.
And the torrent thingie is back up. Just as kazaa is still out there, i think (i dont use it anymore, use other stuff now)

Now, if the spreading of that software is illegal, i think it's rather just that they shut the torrent down.
On the other hand, the torrent also spread legal stuff and it itself aint illegal problably.
I believe the creators should be rewarded for what they made, but the users should also get something more then just the 'wow, they are stealing my money again' feeling, which is basicly what capitalism is about, steal money from your clients, as much as u can. Profits.
Am i way off here?

Well the "not" communist leader Putin and some of his friends pushed Swe government to shut down some servers that contained websites with criticism against Russian government(Plus lots of personal info). There is an internationall law (Hard for me to speak in english btw), dunno what it's called but "freedom of speach". Anyways, by shutting down this website, swedish police/regim broke this law which is pretty offending. They also had a chat with PRQ who hosted it. PRQ is a webhotel/webhosting.
The guy owning these servers and a lawyer that helped him went to trial and got their servers back. The case about swe police/regim breaking the internationall law is not over by a long shot...2 weeks after this, the same prosecuter storms ten different places with over 50 cops, commandeering over 130 computers and servers + things like "Example 69 - Unmarked CD"  cheesy  These servers were stored at PRQ and by the homes of the guy owning these servers and the lawyers  rolleyes

Now, you dont do this kind of thing with no evidence of anything of it being illegal, since he brakes lots of law's by forcing in at peoples houses and stuff!
Something is behind the scene, and that is what we are waiting for (:       (Now this might not interest any1 at all, but I think it's interesting)

Pirate Bay was down cuz' their servers were stored at PRQ, no evidence on them tho, dunno how they fooled the cops, yet, so its as good as back online)

Lots of "pirates" demonstrated against this, and a political organization called "The pirate organization" got thousands of new members in one day! Lots of debating in newspaper and on TV atm, and btw, the order to shut pirate bay down came from some lame ass in US...

Anyways, this debate just started, and the law they made last summer that said you're not allowed to download, only made more people d/l  afro  (Statistics say there's 1 300 000 file sharers here in swe evil)

So, things are gonna happen now, they need to do something about this, either spend HUGE AMOUNTS of resources to shut down lots of servers, sending cops all over the country and blabla or they will have to adapt to this new "ideology" !!

The copyright law indeed should not be removed, tho lots of artists have joined the "the Pirate Organization" since 99% of the money when buying a CD goes to RIAA anyways!
Ok now I've written a lot, hope I made it bit clearer  undecided

Freedom of speech is too vaguely defined, usually. Its all way too difficult for me, to understand i think. i am not a lawyer.

But i can say that it wont be over soon. Stuff like this never ends. Usually, in the end, everybody loses.

hey, at least they didnt ban the entire internet.

Actually internet has already some sensorship. Google filters results, based on each country's requests. For example, fascist sites in Germany.
And in the US, they even arrest ppl based on e-mail scans, covered by the patriot act.
Of course the guys that see beyond google, msn or yahoo, can have access to information. The remaining 99% are, like our communist comrades say, sheeps leaded by the media.

Regarding freedom of speech, it is a right like any other, i.e., the personal freedom ends when it starts to confilct with another ppl freedom. You are allowed to smoke, as long as you dont interfeer with other ppl right to not inhale smoke.
Although in this case i dont see a conflict. Swedish government just followed instructions from russia. Bunch of oshores!!
