Integrated Intel cards should run Savage fine in Linux, use this site for the latest DRI-ready drivers from Intel: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/

NOTE: Does require some compiling of drivers and related libs.

Ok so i am having the sam problem as many ATI users are. The new ATI driver just doesn't work. I get disappearing buildings, untis, and terrain. Mostly terrain and randomly it will go into crazy 3d polygon colors.

I know i have to revert back to an older driver in order to get savage to work, but my newer games such as conterstrike source and Team Fortress 2 must use the newer ATI driver.

My question is this. Can i have both the older driver and the newer driver installed so that i can play both or am I doomed to install a different driver every time i want to switch between savage and my newer games?

Here is m y information if that helps any

tried to download SFE yesterday. was SHOCKED over the difference in the FPS. i can now have up to 50-60 in fps again  Cheesy

to me it looks like SFE works better on intel's integrated graphic card. but i don't doubt Savage XR works best on AMD/NVIDIA  graphic cards  Cool

Hey folks,

Updating your ATI Radeon video card drivers no longer improves your fps in Savage XR. Actually, the new drivers make it worse (circa 25% decrease in fps). That's the trade-off for getting much better performance in the modern games like in Starcraft 2 for example. But if your hardware isn't that high-end and/or you don't play much the newest games, it's probably wise choice to stick to the older drivers.

From my exprience, the latest best working driver for Savage XR is the one included in Catalyst Software Suite 11.8. The drivers in 11.9 and 11.10 give that ~25% decrease in fps I meantioned.

If you already happened to update past 11.8, you can always revert it:
1. Create a system restore point (just in case if something goes wrong)
2. Download Catalyst Software Suite 11.8 for your system
3. Uninstall "AMD Catalyst Install Manager" and all of its components through control panel
4. Restart pc and install the good old 11.8

Download links for Catalyst Software suite 11.8:

For desktops:
Windows 7/Vista - 64 Bit
Windows 7/ Vista - 32 Bit
Windows XP - 32 Bit

For laptops (Mobility):
Windows 7/Vista - 64 Bit
Windows 7/ Vista - 32 Bit
Windows XP - 32 Bit
NOTE: For some strange reason AMD doesn't offer these previous Mobility drivers on their site. Luckily I found this non-offcial site keeping an archive for them.

Hope this helps the ones struggling with low fps!

Cheers,
Nanaa

Does closing down the steam app (if you have it installed) affect your FPS?  I've noticed when that's open it affects my FPS.

I don't have it anymore but it's weird if it would affect your fps. It usually uses like 20 mb ram and 0% of cpu.
