Lately I've been hearing about people reporting bugs (like disappearing units on ati systems) related to using different graphic card drivers. If you experience problems with Savage 1 try reverting back to an older graphics driver.

I thought it would be a good idea if we use this topic to post all our findings about what drivers work best with Savage 1 on different operating systems.

To do this I suggest people post their operating system the graphics card they are using, the driver version number they have found that works best with savage and any drivers that have caused issues (with an explanations of what the issue was). If you don't know where to find your graphic card driver version information, when using Nvidia it can be found by opening the control panel and at the bottom left of the window you will see a link named "System Information" or when using ATI click on the advanced view, then expand the "Information Center" tab and you will find the version number under "Graphics Software"

My OS: WinXP pro 32bit x86
My Graphic card(s): SLI 7800GTX
My Working Driver: 163.71
My Problem Driver: 169.21 with corrupt officer icons (has white lines through it).

If you have experienced the same issue as someone who has already posted still post so we know how wide spread the issues are and hopefully the XR dev team can try and sort them out.

I've had the disappearing units (and buildings) bug on NVidia as well, although not much recently.  My current setup is:

Gentoo Linux
nvidia-drivers-100.14.19
GeForce 7600 GT

The only major problem I've had is that performance since I went from the 9-series driver to the 100-series driver has dropped a significant amount.  On the other hand I haven't seen swapped textures or disappearing objects in quite a while, so it's possible that those problems have been fixed by the newer drivers (although I still get golden monkits from time to time).

OS/Dist:     Gentoo Linux * kernel:Linux 2.6.23-gentoo-r3-uvesafb i686
Driver:       FGRLX (Catalyst Linux Edition)
Cards:        Sapphire Radeon 9600XT (256) and X1650PRO (512MB)
* System Specs: Processor (CPU): AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+
Speed: 2,075.05 MHz, Total memory (RAM):  2.0 GB

Results:
9600XT:
   Versions 8.40.4(aka 7.8 ) -8.41.7(aka 7.9), works ok, good speed increase with 8.41
Versions 8.42.3(aka 7.10)-8.433(7.11), not to sure but i think the memory leak didn't affect this card, thus ok. at that time though I was more interested in using my new hardware..
Version  8.443.1(7.12)      not tested on this card

X1650PRO:
   Versions 8.40.4(aka 7.8 )-8.41.7(aka 7.9), card not working/supported
Versions 8.42.3(aka 7.10)-8.433(7.11), due to memory leak, these drivers suxors for savage, otherwise ok, for example nexuiz  ran ok, until it maxed memory, and savage ran at bout 10-20fps untill maxed memory and crashed  Cry.
Version  8.443.1(7.12) (current), memory leak gone, average fps 30-60, with high to max graphics setting, res @ 1280x1024 (due to 8.44.3 having some wide screen support issues (monitor native res is 1440x900) Cry

only suffered disappearing units on one or two maps, no buildings, happens very infrequently

This is probably the thread I need then.

I think I'm having problems with the new ATI drivers that came out. So I deleted the file in the ATI folder but I still have disappearing stuff.

What does that mean? I'm still having the problem, did I do right by deleting it because it doesn't seem to have done anything. This whole thing makes no sense. Could it have anything to do with wireless router?

It obviously depends on what kind of integrated graphics you have. Not all are bad, some integrated graphics are better that video cards themselves. How else can people run games like Crysis on laptops?

Here's another example of a machine that's not working with an integrated graphics chip.  I'm getting a white screen on startup.  I hear music, see the screen resolution and silverback version splash at the lower right of the screen (until it fades), but otherwise just white.  Cannot tilde to a control window (just see stationary, fragmented, colored bars to left of screen).

This is happening on both xr and sfe.

I'm running the linux client on a toshiba satellite A205-A5855 machine.
Op sys is ubuntu ibex (8.10) (Dual core machine, but running 32-bit ubuntu)
Graphics chip is Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100)
Graphics drivers are ubuntu repository managed, standard intel drivers.
The Intel gm965 chip is directx 9 & 10 capable, according to intel specsheet.
The machine is otherwise capable of 3D rendering: my compiz subsystem works just fine.

If anyone's got a solution, I'd appreciate it ...

Regards to all.

PC intergrated gfx are not up to running savage Xr

They generlay are unable to Run to open gl 1.2 standars and so the wihte screen shows (There is showm screwy yellow text i think if you look hard enough)

That does not go for all, for example some have a inbuilt ati 4350 (crappy card) which will run savage but not as good as a *better* Dedicated gfx card, for example replacing a inbuit 8400 with a discreet 9300 wont help as they are the sane with diffent names

Edit:- Sometimes drivers may unlock extra potential but i do not recomnd gaming on intergrated
