A fellow by the name of Kripp broadcast his Savage gameplay and hosted a server this past evening. I saw people chatting in IRC. I got on this broadcast, and a chat feed showed loads of people getting their first glance at Savage. Then...they began filling servers...and STAYING in them. The ones that couldn't fit in the host's broadcast game came over to Leet.

A few players like Angelique, Shun, and Bilbo started teaching these guys the ropes. It was a very busy evening.

I enjoyed commanding a game between these guys. They swarmed at each other with no regard for stone, building, or self-preservation. It was a damn glorious battle of legos with nomad bows and nomads with coils marching willingly to their deaths, as fodder should.

We were really strapped for quality players to comm the games. But even with just a stalk, I was eating lego after lego. One guy called Djinghis overpowered.

People simply had not heard of Savage...ever. They didn't know it's free. They didn't know it's 10 yrs old. One of these guys told me they were from a D3 community, which Kripp also does broadcasts for. Everyone give em a warm welcome!

The broadcast feed was here:
http://www.twitch.tv/nl_Kripp

Best one-liner in the chat:
"WTF is this game? Indians vs. Aliens?"

Very interesting stream indeed.

First I've noticed is Skripps XR install having missing icons due to autoupdater bugs.

(around 1:40-1:50)
First questions are how to change the name and if there's no reload for ammo.

There are a couple of newbies (including kripp) complaining about the crosshair ring aka "On screen bullshit, like red and green and stuff", "fucked up crosshair". Took him like 2 minutes to remove. The others have no idea what this "crap" is.

They are amused by the behe only having one epic ability and they were also very interested into the awards in the end.

(around 2:05)
Then they are victims of the default XR bug of nextmap votes not working when you set up a new server and played eden2 twice.

(around 2:15)
They decide to set up their own server.

(around 2:25)
People complaining about flux gun being gay, they are also amazed by blaze damage.

They play eden2 the third time due to the XR server configuration bug.

(around 2:36)
Someone asking how to shoot with a bow.

(2:40)
People laughing about carn being ridiculously powerful. (newbes almost never block at all, there way are more newbies leaping than blocking)

(2:46)
Chat: Summoner seems crap (unfortunately the chat is hidden by his logo)

(3:07)
Someone dislikes the squad menu and asks how to disable it.

Generally a lot of complaining about lag (they probably mean Beast leap) and complaining about clumsy player movement.

(3:30)
Complains about hits not being registered (prolly lack of Wysiwyg)

Generally they are having fun playing together as a community, there are almost no disconnects.

(3:49)
People don't get the background story: "crossbow, then rifles makes no sense at all".

(3:53)
"Abyss: What am I not understanding about melee? I'm just getting owned."
That's even a bigger problem on normal servers: too much hidden depth. Melee looks simplicistic and dumb which makes getting owned feel like being a complete retard (or blame the lag). As soon as they understand that melee is hard to master, this problem is solved (thx Nanaa).

I might watch it a bit further.

kripp said several times the physics are awesome in this game, if you hit or miss its actually your own mistake. its hard for noobs to accept that but i think most of them did, he had lots of positive things to say about savage aswell, but hes playing with a slightly broken client.

edit : lots of them said why not play savage 2 its newer and better graphics, kripp replied with : savage 1 is the only savage!

He indeed has a outdated and slightly broken client preventing him from playing on his own hosted server.
You can see he really likes the game and we will probably see him a few more times for some games.

@"Kripps' guy who hosts their server", if you need help with the server sent me a PM. Probably I can help you out with the server.

@Kripps: Your client is actually outdated!

I believe it's someone called Jamez who handles the server and connection issues they went through last night.

Update for ya all:

These guys discovered they needed to update their client last night after many crashed attempts to host a server with way too many players. I mean they were trying ranges from 100-128, way too high for any game's netcode, and on top of it the host (or one of his buddies on voice) had a sound issue. (Shag was trying to help, but I'm not sure how that went.)

The good news:  they found the tech support on these forums.

They felt out the game this night on the US duel server mostly.

This time I had 20 binds of instructions for new players. We were able to teach a couple players how to pred:  backstab, chain-leap, and in-n-out on a freeswingin lego. The players were very happy with how much more complex melee is than it appears! One guy watched us regulars duel and commented how amazing it was to see a pred all over the place.

Not to get any false hopes up...but many of Kripp's fans seem more interested in being on his stream and following him than playing/learning Savage. At some point last night, about 25-32 of his players stopped following him and actually played a match through to the end on the broken Wisconsin server. I'd say 50-60 more players followed him for hours. Plenty of his stream chatters whined for Kripp to play something else, but they were met with equal peer pressure.

All in all, I'm happy about the players who think the game is awesome.

If you mean the last match i commanded on losthills, it was pretty good to see ppl not blindly following Kripp and staying for the game itself, There're alreay about 10-20 guys that started to play Savage regularly even on EU servers, from that stream. I'm happy Smiley

And i did something nasty Tongue

But i can say i gained a few followers after that match, those even watched me in EU servers afterwards and i gave them tips non-stop.
They were quite shocked about the general skill-level being relatively too high compared to their games, in public servers

Yea, thanks to team nolife and how they used their publicity to show savage to quite a lot of people in a short time!
Best is that Kripp came and literally filled his own server to play, might be a common thing in a lot of games but its truly funny to see in savage...

This just pleases me.

And I encourage all active players to be positive and helpful to any new players.

And I encourage all new players to ask any questions to learn about Savage.

- Angie Approved Wink Toot

Edit: on a side note - the ONLY Reason Shun and I commanded in that game with screenshot - in all truth - was to keep tech lines  on par/equal with each other roughly same time - so it was perfectly balanced TILL full tech tree was created. (Since were sitting side by side with each other)
And it was a perfect match entire game until humans won with balista rush. But it happens - hard lesson to learn for sure.
