Hi all,
today I tried starting Savage after some time I didn't play, and it crashed immediately with this error:

("Errore di segmentazione" is "Segmentation fault" in Italian)
Running silverback.bin with gdb or strace doesn't give any useful information, and deleting startup.cfg only cause the resolution to change but then the game crashes again.
Can anybody help me playing this wonderful game again? If you need more information just ask and I'll post them.
(Sorry for my English, I'm Italian)

EDIT: I updated Savage XR, now it gives a Bus error. GDB says this:

I tried the original SFE too, it crashes with the Segmentation fault described above.

Can you give us more information to go off? What distro and arch are you using? What hardware do you have?

I'm on PCLinuxOS, kernel 2.6.32.12, x86 with 3GB RAM, Nvidia video card (1GB)... what other info do you need? (sorry for the late, I wasn't checking this post anymore)

Can you provide me with your ~/.savage/debug.log, strace and ldd printout of savage's shared library dependencies?

This seems like a distro level issue since you can't play the original SFE version of the game. Do other OpenGL games work for you?
