Let's start with basics:
in savage/game open savage0.s2z with winrar.
Then you have to search for the files you want to change (usually you will find needed files in models(some textures used by models), effects(open with text editor- here you can find what texture is used to render effect) and textures(all props,ground textures are stored here).
for example (redstone):
all redstone files are in:
here are models/textures for goldmine and redstone.
Most of those textures have extension s2g(you have to convert them first!).
Unpack all graphic files from this directory (.s2g and .tga files)
Download S2G Converter made by Notausgang(http://www.newerth.com/?id=downloads&op=displayDownload&category=6&file=S2G_Converter.zip
. (you may need .net framework to make it work).
Start S2G converter:
select tools/mass conversion
browse for source directory(place where u unpacked files)
browse for destination dir(can be same as source)
chose to convert from .s2g to .bmp (no quality lose)
Now go to directory with converted files and check which one looks like its used by redstone(I found em already):
redstone_mine_icon(icon for comm when he selects redstone)
Now edit those files in gimp/photoshop (change red color to something else by selecting red color in picture and then using: colorize/ hue-saturation).
After editing those files, save them and convert back to .s2g (mass conversion .bmp to .s2g).
Now you are ready to finish your mod:
Because savage won't be able to use new packed archive u have to make little trick:
copy one of .s2z files(small one with different mod)
open it then create directories:
delete everything else then copy your modded files inside
Put your s2z file in savage/game/ and name it savage20.s2z.
Now just start the game. (wohoo you have differently colored redstone mine now!)
About beast weapons mod (just use my blue mag/red elec mods to see what files are changed and find what textures strata/enthropy uses).
To find what texture is used by what weapon try:
weapon_entropy1_trail.effect -is what you see when you shoot chaos bolt
in weapon_entropy1_trail.effect you can see line:
vfSet shader "textures/effects/stars/1_nl_star0000.tga"
thats the path for the texture you are looking for. (just convert/edit it like redstone files)
Some weapons use many effects(rupture is one i think). Those files are used by it propably(just edit em and see for yourself)
In one effect file you may have 3-4 effects.
vfEdit 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.
vfSet visclass "beam"/"particles" -if visclass= beam or particles then this effect is used ingame.
In some effects files you can see:
vfSet red 0.200000 0.600000
vfSet green 1.000000 1.000000
vfSet blue 0.300000 0.500000
sometimes you have to edit those files too to make edited effect look cool. Its simple:
vfSet color* starting_value*** ending_value***
**-with what intensity color will be rendered when effect starts(0-no color used 1-max value used)
from start to end: effect will change color intensity like gradient.
***-with what intensity color will be rendered when effect ends(from 0.0000 to 1.0000)
Changing models/gui is harder and different! So first try to make redstone/wepons mod!
