If you are experiencing troubles with the auto-updater, crashes, time outs, errors, then try these suggestions/fixes.

First:
This looks like your having a connectivity issue to the server Sad

Difficult for us to fix it :/ You can try editing your au.cfg and reducing the number of threads to 1 and see if that fixes the issue.

downloadThreads "15" to downloadThreads "1"

or try increasing the number of retries to 6

maxRetries "3" to maxRetries "6"

failing that can you turn on debug mode:

debugMode "0" to debugMode "1"

and post your autoupdater/au.log file here

Followed by:
Right click the .exe and choose to "run as administrator"

OR if the above doesn't work:
Hey guys just wanna say I had this problem on the pic with Windows 7 Ultimate.

Quote
ERROR: avutil-50.dll can't be opened in MD5File()

Solved by running the exe in compatibility mode WinXP sp3. (Right click shortcut / properties / compatibility tab / select to run as winxp sp3)

Same thing for the installer.

OR

Try to rename the file to avutil-50.old, and see if the autoupdater manages to download the latest version.

OR

I had the same problem dj told me my computer was having a spaz out, what fixed my problem was turning antivirus off and closing every other program while updating also minimizing the a-u and waiting  5 mins. it usually takes less than that.

Following on from my previous comment if you receive the error:

Quote
ERROR: Failed to Update!

Could not download 'avcodec-52.dll' after 3 retries.

This error can occur if you have a poor internet connection or if other applications are using the internet. Try restarting the Updater to re-download this file

You maybe be able to solve this by editing the au.cfg configuration file and changing the number of downloadThreads "15" to "5" (as "1" will  make the update very slow). This file can be found in the top level directory of your savage installations (C:\Program Files\Savage XR\au.cfg on windows xp if you did not change the installation directory).

If you're getting something like this, and the suggestions in Django's post (above) didn't help, first try and stop downloading movies with pretty girls sharing their impressive natural gifts with the audience. Tongue. If that didn't fix it, especially after some random update (not during the 1st update after installing the game), no matter how many times you try to re-run the game/update, this should fix it for you:

1. Locate your "/autoupdater/temp" folder in your Savage XR installation. Remove ANY files you find there. In this case, there should be a corrupted "newerth.zip" file.
2. Preferably along with the fix above, edit the "autoupdater/locaversion/version.txt" file. Replace that number with one with ~20 less. Example: if you have 6133 there, put 6110.

If you're getting this one after/during an update, locate au.cfg inside your game installation folder, edit it and replace "compressToS2Z 1" with "compressToS2Z 0". After the update is done and the game has started, exit and put it back to 1. The next time you run the game, the auto-updater will re-pack everything properly.

Alternatively, by leaving "compressToS2Z 0" disabled, you can play the game perfectly normally without the specific need to re-enable re-packing, if the error persists. The only major downside is that checking the local files, when patches are available, is significantly slower.
