Newerth General / General Discussion / Re: It's that day: mass noobs invade Savage

The past few nights on the noLife server have been incredibly entertaining and memorable. I've been commanding most of the time.
The battlefield dynamics are remarkably different from our usual 20v20 games. For instance, high-density warrior groups control huge chunks of real estate. When opposing forces meet, you can see wavy battle-lines emerge and persist between giant bubbles. A line is obvious on the minimap and moves predictably over time, showing commanders a clear border of controlled territory. It may be that groups tend not to merge because the warriors are n00bs and tentative to melee. If the median skill level were higher, the line might not be as persistent.
Last night I commanded Beasts on crossroads in a 60 minute grindfest, and the tactics seemed to play out in slow motion. Dropping a spawn point would quickly yield 15-25 warriors, providing both control of the surrounding area and a meat shield for the spawn. Don't underrate the meat shield.
The new players are very raw. No teamwork, no communication, no voice macros, no gold farming, no sac, no demo, no siege and minimal melee. Even weak human bases are difficult to destroy because the summoners fail to target the shield tower and the warriors are held at bay by the pressure of the base spawn.
But the newbies are having FUN.
We must behave ourselves among this new playerbase. Refrain from farming. Take command when possible. Lead by action, text and voice macro. Explain how to execute a demo run. Vary commander tactics to demonstrate possibilities. Balance vets evenly between teams. Don't buff during melee. Basically, be a good citizen, and don't be a douchebag.

Competitions / Savage World Cup (SWC) / Re: Server Setting Standardization

Thanks for the thorough answers, everyone. I don't have time to properly reply right now, but I'm glad the issue has at least been raised and addressed. I'll bug Jmz when I see him. It's true that the USA community doesn't appreciate what he does for them. I'd donate money if I weren't a poor bastard. Be back tomorrow to try to substantively parse Groentjuh's essay .

Competitions / Savage World Cup (SWC) / Server Setting Standardization
|

I've noticed that certain game settings (respawn time, lag compensation, XP, etc.) are inconsistent across the SWC match servers. For example, on Leet US Match 1 the repawn time is something like 15 seconds, whereas on WW Match 1 the respawn time is closer to 30 seconds. The difference might seem insignificant, but every second counts during a sac or bali rush. Teams do not have equal opportunity to attack at the same rate respective to being home or away. In other words, the away team on Leet US Match 1 can sac the SH twice as quickly as the away team on WW Match 1. This same reasoning applies to lag compensation, XP, and probably other settings that I'm not aware of.
Can we standardize these settings?

We attempted to play Brazil in an exhibition round at 19 GMT and were only able to get 3 players.
We still believe that 0 GMT on a weekend is reasonable given the circumstances, but 6 GMT might actually work for us. I'll consult with the team and get back to you.

To reiterate TNaismith's point, we can only field a team between the hours of 17:00 and 23:00 PST on the weekends. This translates to 02:00 - 08:00 GMT+2 (your time). Assembling a team that spans 6 timezones (from Hawaii to east coast US) is VERY difficult.
As you have double the amount of players and only one timezone in which to assemble them, we think it is fair for you to accommodate us. It is far easier for you to field 7 of your 34 players (1/5 of your roster) in one timezone than it is for us to field 7 of 14 active players (1/2 of our roster) across 6 timezones.
After all, your first proposal was for east coast N/A members to play at 04:00 in the morning, so we think you'd agree that 02:00 for you (00:00 GMT) in the middle of the weekend is well within reason.

Savage XR / Recruitment Forum / The Ultimate List of Clan Names

So I've been playing Savage on and off (mostly off) since the demo. I'm still a total nub. But I'm good at coming up with clan names. I made this list back in 2008 when I was going to form a clan with my buddy Sampson after leaving Invictus (I don't know why they let me join in the first place). I now give it to you. I posted this list on another site a couple weeks ago so I thought I'd bring it here. There are 306 names.
