I'm not sure if this applies but I'm just going to inform you. I'm a power mac user and I've been able to mac a working copy of XR for mac but there is one major set back that I'm not sure if it's my bad or a bug on XR. Everytime the warm up ends on a game (excluding XR servers) the game attempts to download the map.. but the download title thing on the bottom of the paper map thing just blinks and stays that way. I can disconnect, then reconnect and it will download the map correctly and i'll be able to play.

Again, I'm not sure if this is a lagit bug because I'm running a mac version of the game.

Okay, I'm not going to bother flipping through that whole list of bugs.. well, I flipped through a few of it anyway.

With a ATi 4870, it seems that I can't load Samurai maps (havn't yet been able to try normal XR, only SFE and smurai). It gets stuck on /tori/tori_normalmaps.tga and proceeds to prompt to save a crash log (without minimizing!). Very, very crippling bug.

I used an app called "crossover" to install the .exe installer to a specified folder.. then i used another app called "cider" and turned the folder into a .app program :D
quiet simple.  :-D :-)

Weird error:

I tried several times by restarting the programs and its doesn't work. My internet connection is working fine, and I'm on a Windows computer. :P

EDIT: I made it work by making the program run in administrator mode but all my Savage settings are gone.

a) on vista u have to run it as admin
b) the issue with the lost settings has been discussed before - XR is not an add-on to your regular Savage (like SFE was for SEP). XR is a completely new game - you will have to copy your settings from your "old" Savage to the "new" XR one. And before you ask me "How?" --> Use search or browse 5 mins. through the tech support formus - u will find the thread where it's explained

K i got a few bugs i encountered while playing

1. Units start dissapearing and my sound goes crappy at the same time. Takz started a post about this with sfe
and most people with the nvidia 8800 experience the same problem. as i have an 8800 gts, it happens to me 2.

2. When a sub dies, it stays on my spawnselection screen for like 5 minutes, very annoying. same is with flags.
3. i relocced and like half a second later i still got a tempest hit and died, dunno if its a bug but maybe the relocating and the hitbox dissapearing needs to be adjusted?

4. My sound goes bad alot. i already tried increasing the amount of soundchannels but doesnt work.
5. My fps starts dropping around the game gets stalker/savage. doesnt matter if my minimap is on or off or that my settings are high or low. it drops at the same point in the game everytime. my vsync is on so i have a steady 60, but it drops to 30-40

thats all i can come up with so far. about the first bug. i had it with sfe 2 but i managed to fix it using Sweets V9.0 mod
but i cant play with XR as long as units keep mass dissapearing. its unplayable. so il be using SFE untill its fixed.

kk thx for reading my whine cry

Ok.. let me guess: you have a on-board intel gfx card.... You haven't changed you resolution for ages and if you would do that it would suddenly work again right? Yes, it's annoying but it's not just XR. SFE has the same shitty error!

Sorry to use this box to put my post.

But I dont know where I must go to give some suggests to increase the pleasure to play with XR patch savage.

Upgrade 1
I find it is not correct that Miners, Builders and Scout (sensors and landmines are expansive) cannot get some money (gold) when they work. Because nobody (as human) wants to work as that, In spite it is very good for the team.

  • For sensors it is possible to give money each time one enemy is detected
  • For landmines it is possible to give money each time one enemy is killed

Upgrade 2 - more complicate but I see some MOD as that
To personnalise better the comportement of one person in the team with group action. Add a system to select one decorative attribute (hat or belt with a choice of color) for himself,  before go in inside the game, (you must propose one list) or/and his personnal armoris (clan) for group action, it is useful thing to distinguish better is fellows.

another problems.

- Enemy can kill us accross a tree or a wall
- Enemy can look across a wall
- Enemy can kill 1 or 5 persons in the same move of the sword (or nails). Damage must be divided
- When we move on the ladder we must decrease the speed of move when we go up and increase when we go down (you can do the same possibility for the hills or the mountains without jump necessary and dont forget to corred the stamina : the speed of the decrease must change if we go up and if we go down)
- Sometime we are in jail (bug) and when we suicide we lost all the gold.
- Sometine bug catch us.  You must eject verticaly (toward the sky) automatiquely the person when one foot his under the ground during more than 10 secondes

Sorry for my english

Sorry for not adding any proofs, but it's a sound bug as i said and happens from time to time so i can't record it Smiley With XR i usually hear damage sound which is likely a 'plop' as pred when i get blocked. So i act like it succeeds but then i realize i got blocked. I'm not the only one who has this bug. 3 of my friends have it also, maybe more in this community have but just didn't make such a post so far.

I'm using XR Windows, don't have a Linux system so couldn't really test it.

Thanks for giving your time.

when trying to load crossroads the loadout hangs, here is the snippet from debug:

GL_RegisterShaderImageTextureMap: world/crossroads_overhead.jpg not found or bad shader
Not a JPEG file: starts with 0x47 0x49
Aborting JPEG load

edit:
looking into the sav-xr\game\world folder there is indeed just a jpg overhead file which contains a gif-header. deleting is no good since it is being downloaded exactly the same again.
this happens not only on evo servers but on others as well.
a possible workaround until this is fixed is to copy the crossroads_overhead.tga file in the above mentioned folder.

I'd like you to be aware of this issue. Since the last update, XR will not launch anymore. I am using Vista and get the following error upon running the desktop shortcut in admin mode:

Silverback Engine: Error

Game error during initialization:

Main GUI Error: Could not get o_scrollbuffer connect_panel:connectmenu

I will be available to try any suggestions you may have.

It seems that after playing with the XR RC1 for some time ,
I got ping jump from 100-500 and after that the game is totally freeze.
I got a massage on the control panle (while i press `) saying "invalid SV frame 72153" and this number is changed every sec.
Hopefuly this will help you understand the problem.

"invalid SV frame" errors are usually indicative of problems with your internet connection having packet loss. Does this only occur on certain servers? Packet loss can be caused by other software in the background using your internet connection, such as torrent clients, viruses or trojans etc.

i have the same problem as deathrevenge... i have wirelless connection, so.. ok i lose some data maybe, but it always meant my ping fall a bit... but XR server is not able to handle with it... on other server i get little lag, spike, but i can continue in game, on XR serer i get freeze and have to disconnect

and ofcourse, it occurs only on XR server from time u made it XR. on other servers i have no problem...

No I dont think so... Nothing is running while im playing savage, computer is cleaned from viruses/ trojans.
As for the server, It happen only on XR server never had it before, it doesnt happen while im using sfe
And not when I had XR patch running on sfe servers (that you had before changing them to XR).
I dont think it is becose of my internet either.

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Django on June 22, 2009, 09:42:14 pm
What type of internet connection do you have? How fast is it? Some people with uploads speeds of less than 128Kb/s a sec might experience issues with changes made to some net variables that were changed to increase the responsiveness of melee.

Try typing cl_smartnetcode 1 in the console and see if that helps with your problem, it reduces the frequency at which you computer sends updates to the server when you press keys or move your mouse, reducing the upload bandwith you need to play the game at the expense of smoother melee combat.

Keep in mind that connectivity issues can be intermittent and thus it could be coincidence that you have ping problems when we updated the evo and community servers to XR, considering you can't test that this issue does not occur on sfe because both the public servers are running XR.

Also do you have these issues only on full servers? If no then can we arrange a time to meet in game so you can show me your ping on several servers?

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Django on June 22, 2009, 10:06:07 pm
To keep peeps up to date, deathrevenge issues occurs on sfe servers and seems to be a connectivity issues between his isp and newerth.com and not related to XR.

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Mohican on June 22, 2009, 10:13:15 pm
Please also note that we had an overload on the newerth.com server during the last couple of days.
This may have contributed to increased ping times.

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: deathrevenge on June 22, 2009, 10:20:57 pm
I dont think you fully understand the probelm, Its no that i got high ping (i got 100 on XR server or 120 on sfe sever, that fine for me).
But after playing for some time on a full server the ping going up from 100-500 and then I got this massage about invalid sv frame till I got stuck and i cant move, and aslo the chat lag badly.

the squad panel is automatically enabled and the only key to hide the panel is the caps button... i cant recode it to another key in the options menu, which leaves me to talk in caps all the time because i prefer to hide the squad info.
and no: clicking caps and then reconnecting and then clicking caps again does not fix the issue.

When I go into the Savage XR folder and select either a-u or savage I get no response...(its as if I hadn't even clicked it) yet if I select silverback I can start but I don't get any updates.

I have uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled yet no fix.
Have run out of ideas to try and any help is appreciated.

Nope that wasn't the problem.

Turned off my firewall and hey presto it now works........no idea why it suddenly stopped letting it XR updater work but if I find out I will post more on here.

And yes I had tried the "search" for a solution before I posted and had no luck

ERROR: autoupdater/temp/editor.bat can't be opened in: Utils::unencodeFile()
ERROR: editor.bat can't be opened in: Md5File()

The error message says that the auto updater can't open the file for reading or writing which can be caused by either another process having that file open or that you have a hardware problem with your hard disk, and your pc is unable to read the disk sector(s) that contain this file. Try restarting your pc and run the auto updater again and check your hard disk for errors.

I have the same error on my vista laptop. But it only states the first line:
"ERROR: autoupdater/temp/editor.bat can't be opened in: Utils::unencodeFile()"

My laptop is one day old, so I doubt the hardware problem would be causing this. I also have full rights, so no admin rights problem either. Disabling mcafee security center didn't work either.

When the error occurs can you tell me what process has the file open (in this case editor.bat) with Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) by pressing ctrl+f and searching for "editor.bat".

This will tell me if it is an issue with the file being open within the auto updater when it should be closed.

My problem is that all the menu backgrounds don't show up, they're all white and it's really annoying since I don't usually know what I'm doing, not only that but alot of the icons are just grey blobs.

I'm going to update the orginal installers with a new autoupdater build (and all the previous updates made to XR) that should fix your issue. Expect it in a few days.

Quiet easy to solve under Vista:
right click on shortcut and properties
compability - click under access permission - run as administrator

if this doesn't work check the security settings of the folder.
Probably no read / write rights.

I cant use XR simply because it doesn't work any more. The au doesn't work (never has) gives the "ERROR: autoupdater/temp/editor.bat can't be opened in: Utils::unencodeFile()". I don't fully understand because it used to work even with this error message (that was back in the first 2 months that I down loaded the XR client), I now cant open the game with the short cut, I have to use silverback.exe to start it. Its annoying and frusterating. I am using windows vista, and the first time this problem accoured I uninstalled reinstalled it and it did the same thing. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Also after each match the Hall of Fame is screwed up, it shows the winner of every match is the Legion of Man and 45 minutes match win time, the only thing that is right is the name of the map. It doesn't show who has any awards at all either.

Try the rc3 installer here: http://www.newerth.com/downloads/xr_setup-1.0rc3-cl_win_prod.exe

It should fix your issues (the a-u has several bug fixes) and contains all the public updates that have been made since the release of the last installer several months ago. Remember to uninstall your previous installation first to prevent any more issues from occurring.

Nope but with the release of rc3 a set of new installers will be available to reduce the size of updates downloaded by the au for new installations. The installer I posted is a pre-release of the rc3 installer.

Thanks for the link, I already uninstalled and reinstalled the RC3 and it gave me this

Can you uninstall and reinstall to a different location? If the issue persists I'll look into asap.

Its of the up most importance to us that the alternative encoding and downloading process functions correctly for corruptly downloaded files. I thought that we'd solved this issue :( I may have to try an orginaise a time where we can meet up over IM or IRC to solve this one to one if this is ok with you.

I will gladly meet up over IM or IRC just as long as I can get this fixed, of course I need to get a new mouse for my laptop so I can play the game now... As soon as one problem is fixed another one just has to pop up.... Anyway, just let me know when and where and I will try to do what I can on my side to help.

Hey all,

Look I've just migrated to Win7 64bit from XP. I've read through the two existing threads on XR and Win 7 (along with the last pages of this thread). My openGL version is 3.2 and everything is enabled. I've got the latest nvidia drivers (191.07).

Currently receiving the attached crash report (from standard install download, not rc3). Other games work.

Other times upon launch I am informed Savage has stopped working.

I've just downloaded the rc3 you posted earlier (I uninstalled the previous XR install and installed to a different partition) and that updates just fine, but then I get the same problem (Savage has stopped working).

I run 2 displays so I'll try removing one to see if that makes a difference and post back if it's a solution.

Thanks.

I run into this, but it's because I use Synergy2. Savage has kind of a silly way of doing mouse input based on deltas, not current mouse position. So if your mouse driver doesn't handle the reset to center every frame correctly, you get that exact effect.

i have a bug in my Savage game XR 3... i dunno if it's cause of Rmod or XR... everythind worked perfect before Rc 3 came out.  i changed some settings in Rmod, and then when i go into a game,,, i can only see players and props (trees, stones, building)  but not the ground or anything else.
but sometimes it works perfectly :?

i've also a sound bug where my sound suddenly dissapears in  the middle of the game... and i've added music to the rmod music player or whatever it's called. is this caused by Rmod ? or rc3 ?   :?

edit: pics added  about the first bug(not sound the sound bug):   sometimes part's of the map where you can see the ground are gone, and some places can you see the ground   :-(    trying you advice beard right now ;)

In your startup.cfg, or default.cfg change vid_fullscreen 1 to vid_fullscreen 0

Then start up savage, and if it starts windowed, go into options and change mode to desired, but make sure color depth is 32. (WxHx32 for mode)

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Bantos86 on March 08, 2010, 09:04:42 pm
So it was the fullscreen mode that was killing it?  ._.

Kinda sucks to not have fullscreen, but at least I can try it now.  Thanks!

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: biggeruniverse on March 08, 2010, 09:16:42 pm
Well if you fixed the resolution, you should be able to make it fullscreen again. As long as you are using a 32bit mode.

Forcing windowed mode forces the game to use the same mode as your desktop (which obviously works), but you can go back to fullscreen as long as you use the same bit-depth as the desktop. I'm guessing Vista or your drivers are being picky about this.

I blame Vista :\

New problem now.  I can't get any other tutorial besides the Legion.  The "Advanced" tutorial is no where to be found, and the Beast one won't unlock.  I've played through the Legion one twice now.

EDIT: Just tried letting fullscreening it.  It still errors out, even with the resolution set to 32-bit.  :\

That's because those tutorials haven't been made / released yet. (They take a lot of effort to make from what I gather)

Maybe a 'Coming Soon label is worth putting into RC3.

This is your problem:

Code:
OpenGL: Version: 1.3.1072 WinXP Release

Savage XR requires at least OpenGL 1.5 support (VBOs, vertex programs, fragment programs)

Are you using latest ATI drivers? The Radeon 7000 is indeed an old card, so you might be below the cut-off with that one.

For the Mac version of Savage, minimizing is impossible. Command + Tab, Command + M, and Shift + Tab all don't work, nor does the F3 hotkey.

This is a pretty big problem...

Imageshack, photobucket, etc!

Hey guys just wanna say I had this problem on the pic with Windows 7 Ultimate.

Solved by running the exe in compatibility mode WinXP sp3. (Right click shortcut / properties / compatibility tab / select to run as winxp sp3)

Same thing for the installer.

Are you new with using Windows 7? Most patchers/games/programs need to be started in administrator mode. Rightclick run as administrator.

But.. this is nice find for those who can't log in as admin.. They can just run it in compatibility mode ;)

Ok, after several tries of re-installing the game i thought it would work but still not.

My problem is that everytime i open the game and join the server, i keep on crashing out. Out of nothing. I don't know how or why or what, but if i open the scoreboard i see BOT on everyone instead of their ping. Then after crashing out of the server all servers in the list gives the same problem. I can't join any server and if i want to play i must quit the game and re-open it to join the server. But with no succes because it keeps on comming back. First crash is always within 2 minutes and the 2nd one takes at most around 5 minutes.

I hope someone can help me with a solution because this stinks.

Precious.

Moderators just clean up the forum after wise posts like yours, they can't help with fixing your computer. Reinstalling the game over and over again won't, either. Perhaps a break in the cycle, like installing different video card drivers would.

Nice error report.

No OS info.
No PC specs.
No Graphic card specs.
No Graphic driver version.
No previous attempts to fix it and their results.
No crash dumps, no logs.

It's exactly like e-mailing the doctor saying "I feel a pain, heal me!". There's nothing to work with here, so what answer did you expect? There's no universal panacea for a game crashing.

...and those friendly community members that answer to this kind of calls for help might be amongst those you flamed ingame so perhaps they don't feel like helping you.

I seem to have a major framerate drop at the start of a new map and game starts obviously more than normal and last about 30 seconds now. My frame are about 60 -70 but for the start of the game it drops to about 10 - 20 and i cant move or pan my camera.

1: Considering this is a new'ish problem and I havn't changed anything plus no xr updates could it be the slow demise of my nvidia 7900 gt (5 years) or do cards just die instantly instead of slow and painfull deaths?

2: The only other thing i can think of, is the on and off status of the authentication server as i notice some clan ppl with tags and other missing tags non stop over the last 1 or 2 weeks?

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Daemon on May 02, 2013, 11:39:03 am
Could be auth lag or perhaps your hard drive getting clogged with stuff slowing your PC down at the moment of loading new textures/effects. This pretty much sounds like what happens on older PCs when heavy resources-demanding maps are loaded.

This isn't really a serious bug, but after over 5 years of playing i noticed it now. Don't know if it's XR bug or not.

During a revive as legionaire, I had placed several of my own landmines around me. In the middle of the animation, some beast makes them explode, and I fall down dead, in the middle of the revive. I didn't thought there was a way to stop a revive, ever, but there obviously is !

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Necrofears on June 01, 2013, 09:43:08 am
it has been like that since revive was introduced 9 years ago, you can also kill a beast by disrupting wards he placed during revive.

it is ONLY from the mine/wards YOU drop that will kill you.

Not necessarily. Slow searches are the case when hdd is near finito. But before that the first signs can be that you get weird errors when launching/installing games... as if something was corrupted. Or sometimes in games you get weird texture bugs. These problems can disappear for a while but eventually they're back.

I used to play with laptop and my hdd died 3 times in 3 years! But it heated a lot when playing

I just typed 'bind xbutton1 invswitch 4' into the console and it crashed. Here's a crash report, although from reading console.log I can see
Code:
]bind 5
Current active profile: 0
[0] 5 (down): invswitch 4
[1] 5 (down): unitgroup 5
^yAll teams must have commanders ^ybefore ^ythe ^ygame ^ycan ^ystart!

]bind xbutton1 invswitch 4
Illegal invswitch abuse spotted.

*** CRASH ***

I don't know if you'd consider this a bug or not, but it was certainly unexpected from my point of view. Or is having extra mouse buttons considered an abuse nowadays? Thought I'd report it either way.

Oh, PS. I started savage and the player model look really bright. It seems to be only if I use shaders on normal or high; it's fine if they're not on at all. Here's (http://i.imgur.com/lGn8p3E.png) some screenshots (http://i.imgur.com/OqIAYng.png).

What you tried to do is invswitch, which is used for reloc binds for example. That is not allowed in XR 1.0. Therefore your savage crashed.

Did it ever happen again?

Hi. Noticed a small "annoying" bug.

When G&G server goes nextmap after a round, and you automatically enter the screen with chat, and the overview of the teams + specators, you dont see votes. You hear the sound of a vote, starting, but you cant see it in that screen. I dont think its soemthing that happends all the time. I think it happends only when you join the server after the vote have started.

This was not the case earlier, before the 1.1 patch. I noticed this because I sometimes, when I wanna play a map, I choose the map in the vote panel, and spam the callvote button, while i  wait for a vote to finnish. This isn't the case anymore, and i have to press "play" to see any active votes going on, which really sux because then I have to leave the vote panel and someone else might call a shit map instead   :sac: .

Edit1: On second thought, the "bug" is more critical than it seems. If this applies to all players who is in that screen, then as a result, comms might be elected slower, and warmup lasting longer in general for each map played.

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs

Map editor bug:

All "refset team 2" turn into "refset team 1" in the object file. I'm not exactly sure at what point this change happens, but I suspect it's when you load a map in the editor. If you place a team 2 building (can be anything, arcana for example) and save the map, it stays a team 2 building. But when you edit the map again later, it's ownership has turned to team 1.

For anyone struggling with this bug, it's much quicker to find those "refset team 1" in the objpos file and fix them with a text editor than it is to replace those buildings in the map editor.

When behe/behemoth hits, in 5-10% of the cases the 'tree up + tree down' animation is not playing. So you busy near behemoth, waiting for the tree to go up, then hit relocator, but all of a sudden you are dead by behemoth.

Title: Re: REPORT: Windows Savage XR Bugs
Post by: Daemon on February 20, 2016, 02:03:43 pm
It is a known bug, however, 5-10% is a great exaggeration. It is not a Behemoth-only bug though, it happens to all units. You might remember preds running around with their arms pointing down, not moving, then suddenly getting hit but with no visual indication of that supposed to have happened. It's the same thing, but what makes the bug more visible in Behes is the actual scope and result of the hit (insta-death).

Because of connection bottlenecks or lags, sometimes, YOUR client does not receive a packet instructing it to start the unit hit animation in time, and then when your client receives the impact packet, it rushes to bring things up to speed and complies, inflicting the damage BECAUSE THE SERVER SAY SO, and regardless of not having gotten the animation start packet.

This may either be the fault of YOUR client or, mostly, the fault of the BEHE client, which fails to deliver the anim start packet to the server but manages to send the damage packet, which then the server distributes to the other clients.

While testing this, I've actually noticed that the more hits the combo has and the less cooldown between hits, the more the player tends to spam hit and the fewer the chances that the server does not receive a hit initiation packet from the client. But since Behe attack clicks are quite few and far apart, it tends to be more noticeable. 5-10% is an absurd figure though, 20-50 times larger than what actually happens.

Why don't you wait for the meds or reloc to show up in your hand? You're not giving it enough time, it's called a 'medswing' :).

Don't know the real stats.
It indeed goes into the same category as for example a lagging player which thereby becomes very hard to hit.
So nothing to do to fix this?

Typo in XR:
Show stats of player. Then there is "Figther XP."
