Hey there,
I must say this is an awesome game with an awesome community... Smiley

Now, with the formalities out of the way... I need to point out a few concerns.

I know A LOT of people that have tried and quit Savage because of the big learning curve. Most, if not all, want to play Beast right away and just own people's faces.

But most can't. I learned after a while, but it was all pretty much self-learned, especially the backlash techniques. Though I still suck, I kind of understand how to play now.

Anyways, my point is, since 95% of people play Beast straight up, and they have as much patience as a monkey on ex, why not make a melee guide? Something that teaches people how to leap/block/hit people effectively?

If a guide is not possible, then how about a movie/demo of it?

It would help generate a lot of interest in Savage, I guarentee it Smiley

Thanks.

I personally dont think while i meelee, so i cant make a guide for that.
and i am not good enough at it anyway for a guide like that.

My brother practises every now and then on duel servers and his meelee is already better then mine, sometimes. (since he's 11 that's pretty hard for me Smiley )

The best way is just to ask someone experienced in-game.

On the old EX2 forum I kinda helped Spung make a demo of the backslash - I'll see if I can find it...

Anyone have anything?

It's not just for me, but a melee guide/demo clip would really help the Savage Community get more players too Tongue

watch shags vids indeed plus duel in the duel server 1 hour a night for a week watching people there and you will pick it up fast. melee in savage is not something you can make a guide for since its more about feel and judging distance and range

look
it takes time to be good with beasts for me it took like a year of playing savage till i got to my current skill.
my advice to you as shag said is to watch his movies especally from the duels(for me it helped alot...).
and also you need to practice alot in duel servers and on other servers (not have to be evo cos it got alot of ppl there and its hard to melee there when you are new).
and finelly you need to be patient cos it takes alot of time to be good with beasts.
hope this will help you a little. afro

I know this will sound stupid...but Shag's videos are too good. By that I mean he moves and attacks so fast, it becomes hard to tell what he does. Some of the slowed down duelling I understand, but I want a few friends to understand somewhat how to melee properly.

While Shag is good, he's too good Tongue

k I'll do that. I hope you all see me on the duel servers then Tongue

Well, it's not just me... I mean there have probably been scores of newbies that tried to melee and looked for posts/guides on it, didn't find any, and ended up quitting.

I've been playing for about 2 months now and I'd say I'm average. Pretty much 1:1 or sometimes 2:1 kill:death ratio. However, there's always someone like Shag out there who just pretty much clears the map.

Maybe u'r just focusing on the wrong things?
Theoreticly, u dont have to own in meelee. All u need to be able to do is kill whatever is near your buildings and kill anything that stands between you and the enemy buildings. If u farm somewhere just to get a 3:1 ratio, it looks like you own, but in fact u do nothing usefull. All those newbs u farm there, would have been killed by someone else anyway before being able to do any damage. If u can sac/kill any given shield tower, then you own. Taking out a shield has way more impact on the game then taking out the newbs that wander aimlessly around somewhere. Not saying that shagroth doesnt own, i am pointing out that shagroth can do way more then just having a nice kill/deaths ratio. If u want a very high kill death ratio, then just place mines and flee from battle.

And someone like shagroth will allways wipe out half the team.
Too many newbs that dont even try to block.
In fact, in my opinion, beast only pwns cause human team suffers more from having newbs on the team. mmb snipers. Newbs that dont block nor evade attacks. Siege campers. Newbs that dont look around, that get wiped by a pred that comes from behind. Newbs that dont notice that the 3 ppl who were running behind them have been slaughtered, that are caught off guard themselves. Ppl that stand still to shoot at a summoner. Ppl too stupid to repair shields and kill gates.
The only difference is that shagroth can also wipe out a team of decent players. And good players.
