If you hadn't already guessed, the news post below was an April Fools. We hope you enjoyed the joke as much as we did! Don't worry Newerth.com is not going anywhere...

Its a sad day for the Savage community.

Last night around 5:22 PM EST, Newerth received a copyright infringement notice from the RIAA. The Newerth web server was caught downloading several copyrighted music files over bittorrent. After further investigation, we've discovered that at least 5 Newerth administrators have been using the website to download illegal copies of music, movies, and video games under the assumption that they could not be traced.

As a result, our ISP has decided to take action by closing our account.  With this action, we regret to inform the community that Newerth.com, the EvO match servers, and all related ventures, will be permanently taken offline within the next few days. With all of the time and money that we have all invested in the site, I'm sure that it will be a tragic day for us all. The XR modification will also be discontinued, and all stats, rankings, and forum data will be deleted.

But don't despair -- we have been united through this website by our love of Savage. That love for gaming will continue to burn strong even after Newerth disappears.  The community has not been destroyed; only a community meeting place.  I'm sure that we'll find somewhere to meet again.

We will not be releasing the names of the administrators who caused the letter to be issued.  However, we have released their personal details to the proper authorities and legal action is being taken against them.  Please, take this opportunity to reconsider any piracy that you may be committing now or in the future.  Remember that the files which you may be stealing were created as a result of many hours of hard work, not unlike those that were invested into this site.  Piracy is destructive.

We'll be bringing you updates over the next few days as services are slowly cut off.  I can only hope that we can all move passed this and focus on the future.  A copy of the letter can be found as an attachment here.
