Hey guys, I have decided to make a Mac Savage FAQ, partially because MnkyDeth asked for it, and because VPLTD does nothing at all for the game.
At the moment, Savage for Mac is ABANDONWARE, meaning VPLTD has stopped selling it and no one else has started to sell it.
So, courtesy of Groentjuh, we now have a retail version of Savage for download.

For the Intel Mac Savage Download, read below
Thanks to recent developments, you now have TWO choices of downloads.

If you would like to use Savage (SFE*), see the following linked topic.
Click here for Wraithe's intel Mac version of Savage SFE*.

If you would like to use Savage XR RC3, see the following linked topic.
Click here for Crawford's intel Mac version of Savage XR.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the PPC Mac Download/FAQ, read below.
To download Savage retail, go here.
----
Install
After you have downloaded it, you have to install two more things
1)2.00E4 Patch
2)Game Patch
3)SFE Patch
4)SFE* Patch

To install the 2.00E4 patch, go here. Its a pretty straightforward download, so you guys dont need any help with that.

-----

To install the game patch, download this.
You should get a file called SFE.tar.

Unarchive it, and you should get a folder called SFE.
Inside it should be lots of files.

Ok, heres the 'hardest' part.

Go to your Savage Application and right click on it(or control-click it).
Click Show Package Contents.
Open Contents Folder.
Open Resources Folder.
Open Game folder.
Now copy every single file that is in the SFE folder you dowloaded into the Game folder. Replace everything it asks you to replace.

----

To install the SFE Patch, download this and follow the same steps used to install the game patch.

----

And finally, we are at your last download. Normally, you would not need this patch, but because of the recent icon server failure and release of the new XR auth server, a new patch is needed to play (this patch is needed for clan support and statistic recording. Simply download this file and take the downloaded game.dylib and replace the old one with it (the one that is in the Game folder).

----

OK, now, here's the "controversial legal part".
When you open up Savage, it will ask for a name and registration number.
Once this window pops up, turn off your internet.
Then, type in a random name(doesn't matter, and you don't have to remember it) and use the registration number
SAV0-00000-0000-0000.
After the game starts loading, turn your internet back on, and have fun playing Savage.

Note: I'm not sure how this effects accounts and other settings, as I have a registered copy of Savage.

Go on Savage and look at the upper right hand corner of the main menu.
If it says SFE, you successfully installed SFE.

OTHER FUN MAC STUFF!
-----------
Joining a Passworded Server on a PPC Mac
To enter a passworded server, when you are on the server list screen, pull down the console by typing ~.
Then type cl_password (password)    (without parenthesis).

-----
Clan Creation and Icon Uploading(All Versions)
How to make a clan and upload an icon for it

1)First, make a clan. To do so, type this.

Code:
/createclan clantag clanfullname

ex.

Code:
/createclan SC Sample Clan

2)Next, find an icon. Any kind of picture will work, but if you want the least work, find a .png picture that has the

dimensions of 65x65 pixels

If you have a large picture that isnt a .png file, you have to convert it to the right size.

To convert the file to a .png filetype, I recommend http://www.zamzar.com.

To change the size and apply different crops, download the free Imagewell

3) To make uploading the icon easier, save it to the desktop and give it a relatively short filename.

4)Now, go in Savage to upload the icon. In the chatbox type this

Code:
/newicon /users/yourcomputerloginname/desktop/filename.png

Obviously, you should change the 'yourcomputerloginname' part with your mac login name, and you should change the 'filename.png' part to the iconfilename with a .png ending.

5)If successful, it should say something like"your icon is being uploaded the server.

6) Quit Savage and log back in to see your new icon.
--------

Binds

To make binds that you use in Savage, first, open up your startup.cfg file (in the Game Folder) and scroll down to the section where the lines start with the word bind.

The bind will take two lines
It will be something like this.

bind (your key here) ""
bind (your key here) (your bind here)

* Don't use parenthesis*
For a binding guide, go here, courtesy of Groentjuh.

After you enter your binds in, Save, and then to make your binds/options save(clicking save doesnt do it), quit Savage by using the quit button, not by pressing Apple-Q or force quiting(courtesy of Eclipse).
---------
Things that don't work with Mac PPC Savage
-The info button that shows stats
-The buddy list
-The in game IRC channel
-Can't see all players on the list on certain 3 team and 4 team maps

And for the people that like to know where the binds are stored:

/users/*yourusername*/library/preferences/savage/startup.cfg

.cfg files are text files with a different extension, they should open in your default text editor without any problem. Note that any other startup.cfg file is as far as I know useless. There seems to be a lot of leftover junk from different SEP versions. If someone can get me in touch with whoever did the mac SEP, I want to try and clean up the mac version and get these textures (and editor) working.

And as to the binds resetting every single *blanked* time, disconnect form the internet, start savage, set your binds up, exit USING THE QUIT BUTTON. DO NOT USE KEY COMMANDS!! Open again and your binds should still be there. Quit again, reconnect, and voila. The quit button acts as a save button, but the internet can confuse it. Alternatively, you can set all your binds using the cfg file, but I don't recommend it.

Ok, I've sorted out the editor so that it works (or at least you can edit the result to get it working). Check the mapping section for more.

No prob. I'm having fun messing about with this stuff. Learning lots as I go. If anyone has any questions about the mac version, PM me. Also, if you upgraded to SFE from 3T++, delete it, your preferences, and re-install using the full SFE. It works so much better.

Ok, I'm going to post this here aswell, coz it's not fun when you do this. I'll even put it in bold letters.

Before starting the editor, remove your preference files to another location. After you have finished editing, put them back, REPLACING the newer file. Failure to do so after editing means that you will have to wipe savage and re-install.

I've learnt it the hard way. Now on my 4th re-install.

Ok, having done my 7th Re-install and got it working, I have the following info: Remove ANYTHING savage from your computer, except the dmg. Updates, SFE.tar goes too. Make sure the prefs, crash logs and all that stuff goes too. Then install savage, re-download the updater, install that, re-download SFE and install that. It should then work.

Because the company that S2Games allowed to port Savage to Mac OSX still sells it for $20...and thats the only place to get it from.
